Warranty and warped rotors

Warranty and warped rotors
Anybody know what the warranty is for rotors? Is it covered by the same 4yr/50k mile, or is it considered a normal wear and tear item? I had my rotors turned at 20k miles because they were warped, and the dealer covered it under warranty. Now, I'm at 44k miles, and they are again pretty warped.
BTW, I had a 90 Accord with 120k miles, and I never had a problem with warped rotors.

I think by now it is under the dealer's discretion. I have never paid for rotor work, but others on the board have had to. At 44K miles you are treading into "wear and tear" territory for sure.
The case could certainly be made that the rotors or some other component in the braking system is inferior to allow the rotors to warp so often (my TL-S has 20k miles and I have had the rotors worked on three separate times, finally they just replaced them since they couldn't be turned any more--all at no charge).

I had mine replaced at 22,000 miles...This doctor was aat teh dealer the same time as I, and apparently had some bigwig rep come down and inspect his as well...They apparently replace the pads entirely and that is where the problems allegedly caem from...

Resurf and turning the rotors are the same operation.
every time they get resurfaced the disc material diminish's
which en turn less metal more heat easier to warp !
Only way to cure is to upgrade brake system or stock up on Rotors-

Did you get them resurfaced under warranty? I'm about to go in for my 45k service, and I'm going to ask them to fix it under warranty.

Warped Rotors at 22,500
I just went in for my 22,500 service. My 2002 TL-S has that fine shimmy when you hit the brakes at high speeds. At first the service advisor said that it is normal wear and tear, but after I politely told him how unusual it is for a high performance car to suffer from warped rotors at such an early age, he agreed to replace pads and resurface the front rotors.
Of course he did not admit that there was any deficiency in the design of the rotors, nor did he say that it is technically covered under warranty. He simply said that the dealership would do this ONE TIME courtesy service because I am such a wonderful customer.
Acura definitely needs to upgrade the rotors on our cars.

I think I need to get my rotors checked out. My steering wheel vibrates only when I brake comming off of the freeway or from 70mph and above. Could it be the rotors or the wheels and tires?

Shimmy shimmy cocoa bop...
I just got my 22,500 mile checkup. Interestingly, I had the exact same problem. The last time I got my oil changed, they did 'minor brake work' but didn't tell me what it was. This time, they resurfaced the rotors and put on replacement/upgrade pad per some Acura service bulletin. The car doesn't shimmy now. But the breaking is REALLY soft... I have to put a lot more pressure than I had to before.
(as a side note: I have the tape on my trim around my doors bubbling and wrinkling. The Acura rep suggested that I let it go a lot longer and then have Acura replace all the affected pieces... he estimated that they'd need my car two or three days in order to fix it. *sigh*)

they may ask if u are still using acura oem pads or upgraded. as long as they are the oem, they will resurface or replace the rotors under warranty. at least that is what they did for me. resurfaced twice, replaced at about 38k...

Not a Blowhole
Technically, it is only covered under the 12/12 section of the warranty - anything else is dealer discretion.
Hi perf brakes? Not really, they are essentially the same design as other Honda brakes. Most cars today have gone to ighter construction and thinner rotors because of fuel economy. as the rottating mass is greatly reduced. Ford Taurus's had terrible rotor problems, even on the hi-po SHO.
Make sure you have the wheels torqued properly, go easy on the braking and allow adequate cooling off times. The braking system was not designed for track work and extreme heat loading on the street will also put the rotors at risk.

I just wanted to let you guys know that Acura covered the warped rotors at 45k miles. The service guy did have to call into Acura and ask whether or not it would be covered, but he had no issues with it. All 4 rotors were replaced free of charge. I'm not sure if having my rotors resurfaced at 22k miles had any influence on the decision. Of course I did pay $250 for the scheduled maintenance service, but I'm pretty happy that my brakes were for free. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with Acura's, and more specifically, Pohanka's service.

Just had my 30K maintenence appointment yesterday at Courtesy Acura, Orlando. They did a wonderful job. Very nice service people. The service rep noted that my front rotors were warped and that they resurfaced them at no charge to me. He said since the rotors warped at such a low mileage the warranty will cover it. Works for me. Before I took my car in for service I did notice that hard breaking was kinda bumpy, but I didn't mention it to the service rep. They found the problem and told me about it. Contrary to popular belief, there still are some good honest mechanic shops around.
