Warranty question

I just got my TL. It's a 2000 model with only 46,500 miles for $15,500. It was purchased from an independant dealer which was not an Acura certified pre-owned dealer. Carfax has it first registered in November of 2000. So, this leads me to think that the car is still under manufacturers warranty until then or when I hit 50,000 miles. I aloso called acura Customer service and they said it has the warranty on the tranny and a saftey issue. I asked about the regular warranty and the rep said nothing was there to reference the warranty. So the rep couldn't confirm that for me either. Can someone help me confirm my theory?

Ok, so get this. I also have a 00 TL and had to bring it in the other night for an oil change and to get my rear view mirror fixed (it has stopped dimming on it's own). I bought my car from an Acura dealership and it's certified used (current mileage is about 48,500). Both the dealership and HMC Warranty Dept told me that the actual vehicle warranty for my car was 4 years or 46,000 miles. The certified warranty is good until the end of this year (which is year 5 for my car) or 68,000 miles. So, they wouldn't fix the mirror and wanted $400 for the repair (not covered under the certified warranty). I called my dealership back and asked about this whole situation, and they said that since my original warranty had expired I was not eligible to renew my warranty for a "Total Care Warranty" and that I was screwed. After talking to the finance people a bit and my sales guy, they are going to "float" me and allow me to purchase the 7 year, 100K full coverage warranty with $0 deductible for $1,472 (I get to cut that check tomorrow). Then I'll wait a month, go back and complain about my mirror, and get it fixed under my new warranty.

So, my advice to you is to call the HMC Warranty Claims Dept and give them your vin ASAP. See what they say, and give a local dealer a call. These people are pretty slimy so you need to jump on them. ….Or, maybe they're just yanking my chain - in which case I don't care since I was going to extend my warranty before the certified warranty ran out (although, that wouldn't have worked since technically, I'm over my vehicle warranty which is what really matters).

Clear as mud eh?
