Question warped rotor problems on 2002 TL-S?

Does the 2002 TL-S have same problem with warped rotors as the 1999-2001 TLs?
Does anyone know?

Had to have the front rotors on my '99 3.2TL turned because they had a slight warp in them. Dealer did it "on the car" at no charge and replaced the pads as well. So far the '02 3.2TL-S has exhibited no signs of warped rotors. BUT, it was not evident on the '99 TL until about 7000 mlles or so. We'll see . . . . .

Wink

I haven't heard anything about warped rotors on 2002 models. Acura said that the pads had too much metal and it would cause the rotors to warped on hard braking. That's the reason they are replacing the pads too. They offer me crossdrilled rotors for $300.00 with free installation on my third visit to get my rotors re-surface. I wonder why does pads were lasting so long. I had to replace my pads every 12,000 miles in my previous car. I hard brake a lot, is just the need for speed, need to brake after it...lol.

Take it back to the dealer. I had this problem on my '91 Maxima, and made the mistake of taking it to everyone EXCEPT the dealer. When someone finally told me it was probably a warped rotor problem that was so bad the rotors needed to be replaced, it was too later. The dealer would take no responsibility because I had been getting brake service done by someone else, and they wouldn't own up to the problem.

Even Consumer Reports knew it was a problem. They always rated the brakes on the '91 Maxima as a full black circle (much worse than average).

1) I searched my car database and found no trend around premature rotor warping in Hondas
2) Except for el-cheapo Ford rotors (notoriously bad), much rotor warpage is due to improperly torqued lug nuts! These should always be torqued by hand wityh a torque wrench, or with a torque indicating air-wrench socket tool.
3) Make sure the caliper is releasing - a partially stuck caliper can cause rotor overheating
4) Examine your driving habits - some people ride the brake, rest their foot on the pedal, and race from stoplight to stoplight, never allowing the brake system to cool down - this is not designed to be a racing system, and there is a tradeoff between rotor longevity and increasing wheel moving mass, which hurts gas mileage and accleration.

Be cautious of cross drilled rotors - they actually can increase stopping distances on a one to one comparison with stock units because there is appreciably less "meat" for the pads to bite into. In racing applications, the overall rotor diameter and the pad materials are adjusted to offset that.
