Warning

I had a dead battery on my 00' TL, hooked up jumper cables, turned around and without any indication of a problem the hydralic lifts that hold up the hood
failed & the hood collapsed on the jumber cables and nearly punched a hole through the hood.

My hood has to be repaced and repainted, well over a $1,000 repair. The lifts gave no warning they were failing and just went out...

Don't let this happen to you...

That sucks. I wonder if Honda is using cheap hood struts now? My 96 Accord V6 was going on 10+ years and the struts never failed...

If anyone is successful in finding aftermarket struts, let us know. I went to a few auto parts stores and no one had them for our cars. OEMs aren' cheap ~$20 a piece.

ouch -- 100 dollars though? I think I've gotten my hood replaced for less than that.

What about the struts ppl use to replace or in addition to their trunk springs -- any ideas on if those would work?

Cold weather compresses the gas in the lifters so there is not enough pressure to hold up the hood.

Mine didn't work at all, when I was nearing the end of my 50k warranty I thought to myself, I wonder if they're covered. Turns out they were and it took them about 20 minutes to replace them and I still got my usual car wash.

They're Nitrogen filled shocks. Lower temp = lower pressure.

I was gonna say that Tein makes them, but I checked their line up chart and they don't make it for the TL's.

Out of curiousity, how long have they been on the car before they went bad. My car is an 02 with the original ones and they seem to be okay, but maybe I'll replace them.
