VTEC vs. iVTEC

I should do some research on this but I'm tired right now.

First of all I actually have two questions.

1: What unlocks the extra hp on the TL-S in comparison to the TL-P?

2: What is the difference between VTEC and iVTEC?

Type S has a higher compression ratio then the P.

VTEC = SOHC = single overhead cam
iVTEC = DOHC = dual overhead cam

not really vtec will kick in at different rpms depending on oil temp and pressure and alot of other factors 4800-5200 thats the range i believe

nto true either nsx is a doch but still vtec i vtec is just vtec with inteligence basically i vtec has the ability to advance and retard timing on top of changing over to differnt cam profile while vtec just switches to different cam profiles

and a bigger throttle body with a newly design variable intake runners to broden out the torque.....

EVERY i-VTEC motor is a DOHC; there are two exceptions to the VTEC = SOHC those are the NSX and the S2000 go figure

The new Civic Si is 2.0 iVTEC.

VTEC = SOHC = single overhead cam
This is totally untrue. Some VTECs are SOHC and some are DOHC. Integra GSR for example is DOHC VTEC, Civic EX is SOHC VTEC.

it's not about that...

i-VTEC is the modified version of the current VTEC and the future hondas will use i-VTEC since then...

it smoothen the kick from the VTEC kicking in...and it's a newer version of the VTEC...so...how can i say??

HOW STUPID CAN YOU POSSIBLY BE? Stop talking out of your ass, dumb****. SOHC VTEC has existed probably longer than you've been alive. And to the person saying that the difference is SOHC and DOHC, you're a complete idiot as well. DOHC VTEC: GS-R (B17A as well as B18C1), Type-R, CR-V and I believe Odyssey. Shut up before you embarrass yourself some more. Damn some of you guys are complete dumbasses.

Go do some goddamn research - all of you - and find out how VTEC actually works, WHAT cams are (they're not cameras, which is probably what you think cam is short for), what DOHC is, what SOHC is, how to count to 2, how to spell, learn some grammar, learn some typing skills, and ENGLISH.

Other DOHC VTECs I forgot (how could I...): B16A (CRX SiR, Del Sol VTEC (B16A3), Integra XSi), B16B (Civic Type R).

WHAT A DUMB F U C K I N C U N T YOU ARE. ONLY IVTEC ENGINES HAVE VARIABLE CAM PHASING. STANDARD VTEC ENGINES ONLY HAVE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING. SINCE YOU'RE SO F U C KIN SMART YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT. THERE IS NO COST-EFFECTIVE METHOD TO INCLUDE VARIABLE CAM PHASING ON A SINGLE CAM BECAUSE THE EXHAUST LOBES AND INTAKE LOBES MUST BE SEPARATED. READ THE F U C K ING TRHEAD THROUGH BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR FAT MOUTH YOU STUPID F U C K I N G NOOB

CANT YOU EVEN F U C KING READ? MY POST REFERS TO iVTEC NOT VTEC YOU F U C K I N G ILLITERATE F U C K. DO YOU THINK IM AS STUPID AS YOU? MY ACCORD AND MY TL ARE SOHC VTEC SO WHY THE F U C K WOULD I SAY EVERY ENGINE WITH VTEC MUST BE DOHC!!!!!

DONT YOU F U C K I N G FEEL STUPID NOW YOU DUMB S H I T

actually to be blunt you are wrong! ivtec as you say is variable cam phasing in simple terms advances or retards the original cams a few degrees to help with air mass inertia the i part has nothing to do with new cam lobes technically you can have i-vtec in a sohc with out a problem but because honda is using it purely in performance and air mass intertia is only helpful in the intake side of the same seperating the intake and the exhaust makes for more cost effectiveness and performance with out degrading the exhaust timing.....your point is sort of right as that is the advantage of dohc over sohc cus you can adjust one thing with out effecting the other in this case the exhaust timing.....however v-tec is still apparent in both system v-tec is basically just a cam with 2 settings and a hi and a low when switch it simply opens the valve differently to allow more air and other technically stuff but ulitimatly i-vtec can and will exist in sohc some day night not be tomorrow but some day....so it doesnt mean i-vtec=dohc

vtec, ivtec, vanos, and all the other acronyms... They are ultimately just marketing ploys.

Lighten up and enjoy your engines forcryin'outloud.

I would have to agree with you on the fact that this discussion has become too much of an arguement but these acronyms are more than "just marketing ploys." They allow naturally aspirated engines to produce the same amount of hp as traditional engines could with almost half the displacement.

And don't forgest VVT-i and its counterpart VVTL-i.
