VSA Modulator replacement

Hey...

I recently had an issue where the VSA/ABS and Triangle ! light were always on....verified ABS was not working or VSA, reset the codes by negative battery terminal and master clock fuse and the codes came back. Plus the VSA Modulator would not make the normal buzzing sound after start up. So I replaced the modulator with one from a local junk yard ($150). Now some might say there is your problem, but this was out of a car that was rear ended, they started the car up for me and showed me that there were no ABS or VSA lights. Put the modulator in my car ABS light is off and ABS is working. VSA light is off but the triangle ! light stays on all the time...and then 5 minutes after driving the vsa light comes back on. Tried resetting the codes again and that did nothing.

Is there some kind of reprogramming that needs to be done when a new VSA modulator is put in??? My next step is to go get the codes read again, but was wondering if this required a trip to the dealer to have it reset????

Thanks

The Buzzing after start up does not Come from the VSA Activator!! It comes from the ABS PUMP!

Check your ABS Sensors, Common piece that makes the whole system Fail... At least its pretty cheap to replace!

hmmm...then how would you explain that before I replaced the modulator my abs did not work at all....now it does...abs is part of the VSA Modulator if I remember correctly.

Hey Jim.

It kinda sounds like you have had multiple issues for a while? The ABS self tests at startup and at 15mph. I dont have vsa but it shouldnt make noise. There shouldnt be any reprogramming needed. You should be able to jump the pins on (i believe its a/the blue 2 pin abs connector) and get the light to blink. If you can do that i can look up the codes

or you can come up and we can look at it if you dont want to bring it to a shop to have read.

Yeah, I have had issues for a while, but when it all started VSA and ABS stopped working around the same time. At that time I had the codes read and it came back that the modulator was bad. Hadn't done anything with it as the plan was that I was going to get a new vehicle as a anticipated promotion turned into lay off because I made too much.....ouch

Yes I did switch out the VSA TH Motor and VSA F/S fuses in the engine compartment fuse block.

ABS is not an integral part of VSA more than VSA needs ABS...

ABS does not work if an ABS Sensor is loose (Been there, Done that) so in Any case if the VSA was Removed ABS should not stop working = Thus Probable ABS Sensor.

That Explain why TL-S 6 Speed does not lose ABS as Manuals dont come with VSA or TC at All.

So really what you are saying is I may just have had multiple problems. VSA Modulator could have been bad, now that I replaced that ABS is now working but a bad abs sensor could be causing VSA not to work??? Just having a hard time figuring this out......abs has not worked for about 3 months until I just replaced the modulator

I have a local shop I can have hook up a code scanner, they were the ones that initially diagnosed the bad modulator

YES!
Becouse ABS is ESSENTIAL for VSA to Work! If the ABS Pump didnt work only the VSA Actuator would work (Chokes the Engine) but there is no control over Wheel Spinning (Thats what the ABS Pump DO).

When my ABS Sensor became loose my VSA (!) was on as well as the VSA mark and ABS light.. Only a Sensor triggers so much Lights on the Dash.

You replaced the VSA Throttle Body and now the ABS works? Like said above. Have the codes read and let us know what they are.

no...the VSA Modulator....the part on acuraautmotiveparts.org calls it the BSC Modulator but when you look at the part #7 its called the VSA Modulator Assembly.

Sorry to chime in on this, and I know a few of you know that I already have some problems that I'm dealing with but my ! light is on and after a min of driving the VSA light comes on. No ABS light at all. What could the causing factor of that problem be?

For me it ended up being the passenger side front wheel speed sensor. Go to a shop that has an ABS code reader (even though your abs light is not on) and they can read the code.

How much did that run you? for them to read the code and to be replaced?
