Viper 791xv

alright guys, i just got my viper 791xv car alarm with remote start a couple days ago. i'm planning on taking it to a professional to get it installed but all the places i've called quoted me over $200 for the install. how much do you think i should pay for the install? i'm pretty sure i'll be able to talk them down a little. do you think $150 is a fair offer?

how much did you get the alarm and remote start for? it's about a 2-3 hr process so $200 seems to be about right. You can try for the $150 but many places have a set rate per hour so good luck.

i got the system for $150 straight from Directed Electronics. and i know that most places offer free install if you purchase it from them. so i really don't want to end up paying the same as if i was to have purchased it at the shop since i got such a good deal on it. i dont know if that makes sense or not

Don't you get 50% off labor rates? I know circuit city gets 50% off labor for employees... b\c im a former employee. The normal rate I believe is $150-175 for regular customers. Due to the fact that it has remote start, It costs that extra amount. Its about a 4-6 hr install, thats assuming a pro is doing the install. I did mine with a buddy of mine and it took us about 6 hrs. Damm bypass module for the remote start was a little pain... Oh by the way... When you get it installed by whomever, I recommend you request placing the brain somewhere other than below the steering column. They usually only do it if you request it. Also, tell them to solder the wires. They usually do, but it all depends on the installer. So be cool with the installer... anyways... just fillin you in with my experiences...

thanks a lot for the info. the cost for install at best buy is $200 which i can get for $100 but i dont really trust the install guys there. they mostly do audio and don't have a lot of experience with the remote start. another thing is even though i pay $100 i have to basically drop my car off for the whole day. they'll only work on it when they don't have any other customers to help. and if the job is about 4-6 hours i might not even get it done in one day. so i figured i might as well get a DEI authorized place to do for a little more money and get it done right and in one day.

Are you saying that the 791 cost you $150 plus what ever you paid for install.

Dude you might want to read the thread before you answer. The original question and my answer are about INSTALL not the alarm.

Ever hear this:

"It is better to shut up and let people guess how stupid you are, then open your mouth and prove them right"

Just a thought

if you're referring to me you're correct. as i stated previously in this thread i was able to get it for $150 because i work for best buy and Directed Electronics offered this price for best buy employees. total was $155 with shipping. what would be the point in lying about something like this?
