Vibrations in a steering wheel

I can feel subtle vibrations in a steering wheel when the car is idling. So, what do you think, is this normal or is it may be a problem with an engine mounts?

Thumbs down

I'm been dealing with this from the time my car had 30k miles......now it has 50k miles. I haven't figure out what it is. The dealer has replaced just about everything that might cause this. No fix as of yet. I did drive a CL type S once and it was doing the same thing. I'm replacing all 4 engine mounts as of this week. Will see if that works, but I doubt it.

I drove Honda Accord V6 and was not able to notice even a slight vibration in a steering wheel, so this does not look OK to me.

Try getting your steering wheel re-mounted and do a high speed balance I am just kidding. It could be cause by a bad engine mount, have the dealer check that.

So do you guys think that steering wheel should be free from even slight, subtle vibrations while the car is idling? Considering “smart” engine mounts I believe that should be the case.
Car has just about 500 miles on it for now, so maybe it is going to disappear once the car is fully broken in. Anyway, my right muffler with tail pipe needs to be centered as well so I guess I am going to wait for now and if nothing else pops up, I’ll take the car to the dealer once it is ready for the first scheduled maintenance.
Anyway Mr. Bitium, if you are going to change engine mounts on yours, please let me know the result.

My TL of 3900 miles has no vibration in the steering wheel during idle. I do notice a slight low frequency rocking motion from the engine though... but nothing too obvious.

Well, if you could explain in little bit more detail that “slight low frequency rocking motion”.
The vibrations I am talking about are really subtle. May be the way to explain this would be as follows:
If the engine is off, the steering wheel is dead, so there is nothing to feel if you hold the steering wheel tightly, of course.
When I start the engine, so engine is idling in P, N, or D5 I can feel that engine is running through the steering wheel.
So what do you say about this, normal or …?
Once again, on Honda Accord V6, the steering wheel feeling was the same to me, with engine on or off, dead.

Marko, I have EXACTLY the same problem as you described on my 2000TL with 17000 km on it. I mentioned this once to the dealer, but they didn't find anything wrong with it.
