Vibration when Idling

Hey everyone,

Well it took a few months of searching, but a week ago I finally picked up a 2002 TL with about 45k on it. It came certified from an Acura dealership and after my insurance company told me that they would drop me if I even considered a Type-S.

The car is absolutely incredible except for one problem I noticed a few days after the purchase...

When idling in park, the car...will....vibrate. It will go for about 10 - 15 seconds, and then gently vibrate for a few seconds, back to rest, and the process repeats. I doubt its even enough to notice if a glass of water was on the dash, but it is something so slight that you can't help but pay attention to it.

A few friends have commented that it is a "flaw" inherant to some Honda / Acura cars and should be covered under warranty, but I am curious to know what could be going on with it beforehand.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Yep,

Mine does it to. I have finally just gotten used to it. It is most noticeable in park, rather than in gear on mine.

I guess I can live with it.

The vibration is from the compressor turning on. If you open your window you will hear the compressor running.

If I have my AC off, how is it the compressor. I get the vibes coming to a stop, not really in park, and was told it was rotors.
As for the park issue, no idea.

Its not big deal, its not the compressor or the rotors. Yes when your compressor turns on and you are not moving, then you may feel a slight shudder, cause it sucks off some HP when its running. But my car sometimes does it also when I start it up, its not a deal. I think I read on the Acura site that its a way for the engine to save fuel......who knows, but its not a problem.

If you really do think its a problem, check your O2 sensor, spark plugs...you know stuff like that.

good luck

I've had this exact problem on my TL-S. I never ever have vibrations when in gear, it's only when I put the car in park that the shivvering is very noticeable. If you turn everything off (A/C, stereo, etc...), you will feel the rumble in the seats mostly. I find that depending on the temperature outside, it sometimes gets marginally better, or marginally worse. My car is currently in the shop right now due to poor gas mileage and a rough idle. I told acura that if they can't fix the problem, too keep the car. I don't mind the 1.7EL, especially getting like 30 MPG in the city
