Vibration Problem Update, and Advice Needed
As an update to my story... earlier this year my TL-S hit the mother of all potholes in I-84 in Cheshire CT at 70mph. My alignment and both driver side factory rims were messed up bad.
I replaced the damaged stock rims and winter tires with my summer set of AT Italia rims and Falken tires - which were fine last summer, and had the dealer fix the alignment - he said the steering wheel was off.
Everything was fine for a week or so, then I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel right between 60-80mph.
The dealer tried balancing twice, no dice. He pointed the finger at the "custom rims." Ok, I had him mount a set of new stock wheels and tires from a new TL-S.
Better, but the same vibration problem. Dealer threw his hands in the air and said one of my tires must have a slipped belt, and claimed the stock rims may not have been properly balanced at the factory.
Ok, I went to a TireRack authorized installer. I'll fast forward here.
I bought a brand new set of Yokohama tires, and a new set of Moda rims. TireRack authorized mount and balance. Better, but the vibration is still there.
Yesterday I popped my rims off my car and out them on my father-in-laws RL. NO VIBRATION.
So here is the bottom line - I have enough ammo to prove to the dealer that the vibration is not from the tires or "custom" wheels.
But where should the dealer look now? The TireRack installer said he checked the wheel bearings and they were fine.
I'm at the point where I want to call ACura directly and tell them that if this problem can't be resolved, that I want a new car.
Any and all advice appreciated.
