Vibrating when breaking

Anyone know what is the cause of this?

Sometime when I hit the brake, I can feel vibrations on the pedal. It almost feel like rough surface metal grinding on rough surface metal. When this happens, the car wont stop immediately, but it takes a little bit longer because of the grinding.

Is this normal?

That is NOT normal!! Get those brakes checked ASAP before you have an accident. If it feels like it's metal to metal, it probably is. Get new pads AND rotors since your current ones are most likely ground up pretty bad. You can cheapskate on many things but don't be cheap with your brakes. How much is your life worth?

But I just changed my disc brakes and pads laast week. I replaced the front ones. I did a type 2 service on Acura dealership and everything was fine. They replaced the 2 front disc brakes and pads, and also the lower ball joint(steering wheel).

Also, people say that this is common when the ABS start to kicking in. I read this discussions on the other forums as well. The thing is, this pulsating feeling on the pedal only happen sometime and unplanned. If you do a search on the google, you will find this as common for people with ABS system. But. I'm gonna ask the dealer for sure.

Yes Jumbo, exactly like that.

Ok, for starters,Under normal braking its NOT supposed to do that, When you hit the braking threshold (like aplying the brake as hard as you can) and abs needs to modulate it will create a pulsing but not under normal braking . It should be noise free and SMOOTH. Are you braking hard enough for abs to kick in or is it just normal braking you are feeling this?

If you JUST had a brake service done Bring it back!

It happens when the road is slippery or rocky road/bad road. It doesnt happen very often. I think it happens when I hit the brake normally as well, although it happens when I hit the brake too hard. But, like I said it only happens when the road's condition is like what I have mentioned. It happens during the winter.

That's the feel of ABS... it helps you stop from locking up your wheels and sliding.

Try not braking at max effort in rain or snow and see if it goes away
Perhaps a local driving school can attune you and the car

I see that you've learned it from driving school. Thanks for sharing your experience.

if the pedal vibrates up and down its ABS.
if the steering wheel vibrates in the brakes.

Assuming you havnt made it back to the dealer so they can fix the install prob-
lets continue guessing- maybe its the master cylinder!!!

Aspek- I was trying to be helpful with driving school commet- the TL has special systems and special needs. If you came from a RWD car or a low powered FWD car- someone with experience can help you a lot.
I enjoy track day schools on a real racetrack with a real race car driver as my in car coach.
You can never learn to much about car control.
If you dont know what ABS feels like- you need someone to coach you~

nope thats NOT normal man.....i have a 2005 TL and it was doing that recently.....

i took her to the dealership and the said they had to chip my rotors......so they basically chip like an even 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch off from your rotors.....

the mechanic is a friend so i asked him if there was something wrong with the brake pads n all but he said no its the rotors.......anyway i got it done for cheap.....its like $150 per rotor......

chip OMG I hope not!!!
The rotor is placed on a lathe (or the cars axle is used as a lathe) and it is shaved flat and smooth. There are many things that will cause this out of round condition- heavy stops with no cooling drive afterwards- lots of stop and go driving etc.
Heat is the enemy and if you use the brakes in a major way- they need to be cooled off, not just stopped in traffic after an 80 to 0 useage.

The ABS pulsing of the pedal is very different than the feel of other brake problems.
Everyone should test theirs so they know what happens when it works in slippery situation

The thing is guys, they already did inspection on the brake systems. I highly doubt it that something wrong with the brake. Anyway, I'm still going to take it back on Monday to the Acura dealership.

Take it back to the stealership and break your foot off in someone’s ass and be done with it! If they fixed it and it isn’t right it is there problem. That is the luxury of taking your car to the dealer and paying the prices they charge. I used to get furious when they would give me my car back and something else was fucked up. The symptoms you are talking about all sound like things that should have been corrected if they did what you say they did to the brakes. Also if you think your brakes are not functioning properly, don’t drive your car. Make the dealer tow it. The inconvenience is not worth a wreck or a life if your brakes fail.

no its not just the the abs and no its not from abuse...

i took mine to the dealer in pres day to get an oil change and told them to look @ the breaks..

they said they didnt do anything, but there is deff a huggee difference.. no more loud gridding noises, i think they might have just lubed it up or something.. runs a lot smoother tho
