A very sad day...

On the way home from the gym thur night i was pulling off from a light heading south bound when a drunk driver driving west ran a red light and slammed into the driver side door doing about 40. The car a 2002 TLS did an excellent job of absorbing the hit on my behalf. The extent of my injuries are still unknown but the xrays came up negative. I do have an MRI scheduled for monday b/c i do expect to have a muscular tear in my left shoulder, i have about 10% movement in the arm now. Aside from that a sore neck and back with some minor bruising on my left knee from the steering wheel column.

The car may have to be totaled, still not sure but hope to get some estimates this weekend. If you guys have any good body shops in the nyc area, preferably queens please let me know. The majority of the damage was done to the driver side door and fender. The door had to be torn off to get me out the car because of the damage and the hit to the fender appears to have broken the axel, poped the hood, and damaged the wheel. the left passenger side door also experienced some damage. I hope to get pix up tomorrow, with all the rain we've had here i didnt get the chance.

All this only 6m after having purchased the car, A very sad day indeed. I consider myself very lucky though and i'm grateful that when everything is put into perspective i'm actually pretty damn good.

Good to hear your okay. That is one of my fears , 'getting hit on the driver side door' but it sounds like acura did okay with the side impact.

Car can be replaced, make sure if your car isnt totalled that you have good insurance.

Wife has a 04 Armada, with only 10,000 $ in damage coverage, and got into a accident a month ago, and had 16,700$ worth of damage, so we have to cough up the rest.

well take care, and hope that you recover fully.

Best Regards,

thanx guyz i appreciate everything...one question though, at the time of the accident i was driving < 10 mph, should the side airbags have deployed?

i'll keep you guyz updated.

If this guy t-boned you at 40 MPH and your side air bag did not deploy I'd want to know why . These cars are built tough and it sounds like it absorbed most of the damage. Rather car has damage than you.

That's not the first time I heard about our side air bag did not deploy. I wonder where's the side impact sensor is located, I need to do some research on this, if your side impact sensor is not hit hard enought the side air bag will not deploy.

hmmm...i thought it was odd too, but if you see the damage to the car you would be certain that there was sufficient force to have activated the bag

anyone else have this experience? perhaps i need to follow-up with acura.

glad you're relatively ok.

if they had to cut out the door and all the panels you say are damaged, im pretty sure its a total loss.

think of it, ur already slammed against the door frame lol, and if the bags went off earlier it would mess up injuries anyways..? sensors in the seat for an occupant? lol

wow...glad you are ok even tho the air bags didn't deploy....

one reason why the side airbag didn't deploy maybe b/c your arm was leaning on the left bolster .... not sure tho...

well the body shop gave me an unofficial quote of 7k for the repairs but the insurance company will cover the amount minus my 1k deductible which i should get back once they obtain payment from the other drivers insurance.

theres also minor damage to the left passenger door so it would need some body work and a paint job.
