very dim dome light (with the doors open)
sup guys.
i was wiring my footwell lighting to the dome light when i noticed the dome light was very dim when the doors are open and it wont come off if i close the doors. when i put the switch to the full on position, the light is bright, and it turns off when the switch's off.
wtf is wrong with that shit?? i disconnected everything from the dome light's wiring harness and it's still fucked up.
so what could be the problem??

no other light hooked up to the dome light, all the other lights were off. the only lights on were the doors/dome light and it was in the middle (door) position.
why is the light so dim?? it's the same as if a resistor was used.. very dim. i tried disconnecting the battery (who knows..) and it didnt work.
im clueless!

biatch!
i have rear strobes, front strobes and 2 strobes in the engine bay, all for show. i also have one neon behind the front grill and it looks nice cuz it's well done and it's not too bright.
anyway i dont fucking care about what you say, cuz im faster than you and that's what it's all about! :fingerfawk:

i know the other lights are not the problem. i hooked up everything correctly. there are no shorts or whatever.
it seems like the problem is in the dome light's circuit.
can anyone with a Helms manual check out how it's made??

I checked out all that wiring before
some ideas:
that they would still be on is that (forgot which pin/color wire) is grounded or some voltage below +12Vs.
if it is not that BRIGHT, that same pin is at some voltage above ground and below +12Vs
Are all the splices covered up?
Test the voltages at the parts u spliced.

i have nothing to check the voltage.
someone on this board HAS to have a helms manual to check out the complete wiring diagram for the dome light! something is probably fucked up somewhere but i need to find out where!

Everything upstream of the dome light should be OK. The first place I would look would be the contact on the dome light switch. It could be making a really poor connection (worn / corroded contact for the "door" switch position). This would explain why it works fine in the "On" position.
To test, jumper the blk/wht wire that comes from the dome light directly to ground*. If the light comes on fine in the "door" position, then the problem is still further downstream...ie. the circuitry which controls the auto-dimming.
*Note - I would test the blk/white wire to see if there is voltage on it before grounding it. It is possible that the blk/wht wire shows voltage from both directions. This would mean jumping the blk/wht wire to ground would cause a short from the mutliplex unit side. There are a few things you could do to prevent possible damage (diode, very small fuse or just test the lead from the multiplex to make sure it always shows ground).

it's probably the passenger's side multiplex control unit.
i think im gonna cry.. that shit is 400$. :'(
i'll try to remove it or reset it or something. there must be something to do other than getting a new one!!

I am sure there is a work around do it, it might change the operation a little though.
When I tested the wires while doing my lights in the car I noticed that IF blk white wire is not completely 0 Volts IT WILL CAUSE it not to be as bright.

And if that $400 unit is bad... and it is working the way u say it is, i am almost certain that it is giving a voltage higher than ground when the door is open.
do this, check the bulb. stick to the battery and see what it does and let me know.

hey acur@tl, werd up on the dimmed dome light shit as well as it not turning off..
i think one thing that might have caused the problem was that i left the dome light on the "off" for several weeks ( was replacing the bulb)
but yea anyway if anyone finds a solution, PM me plz.
