Vandalism/Hit and Runs

I've always wondered about other ppl's experiences with street parking. Seems like there are always people messing up the bumpers when parallel parking or trucks hitting your car and then leaving. I live in Queens, nyc and the parking in my neighborhood is pretty bad, considering the apartments and condos that are on my street. My street is pretty narrow too, so when delivery trucks come, they hit the cars. My rear bumper has been dented before. More recently a yellow cab dented my car while it was parked.

Another time My neighbor's car's front fender was messed up by a delivery truck. The guy came out of the truck to inspect the damage with his fingers running across it, delivered whatever he had in the truck and then took off. Of course I witnessed it and wrote down the plate number which I passed on to my neighbor. Anyone have similar experiences? I understand ppl need to drive for a living, but seriously wdfreak? :silvermad

When I use to live in the city I would get trucks backing up into my door, bumper car parking etc. Good thing my doorman took down plates. I guess that the price you pay for living in a big city.

People are generally rude and inconsiderate. You just learn to deal with it. When you get a chance to help someone out by nailing one of the offending bastards, you should do so by all means.

Wow! I wish I had you're carefree way of thinking. That's a great attitude to have! I feel that way about my old furniture....but my Acura? Heck no! A lady just backed into me in a parking lot the other day, and claims she's not at fault because it was a parking lot. WHO CARES??....she dinged up my back bumper and I am P*SSED! I go to college too, Portland State, and the students there drive better than folks on the street! My paint job was immaculate....now it's chipped and scratched. Sure, it's minor, but still it bothers me.

My situation was a little different, but similar. I was parked legally in a parking space at my friend's apartment complex (she didn't have a car so I was actually in her space) when a cab driver pulls up REALLY close beside me and the passenger in the back seat opens the cab door and slams it into my car door, leaving yellow scratches. I got out to talk to her and wrote down her contact info (she lived in the same apts as my friend, so I knew where to find her), and then the cab driver gave me his card and said he would be a witness if I needed one. Well, I was thinking it would be the lady's fault since she was the one who opened the door without paying attention to my car right next to her, BUT it was actually the cab company who ended up having to pay to get my door fixed. The person who OWNS the vehicle is responsible for its drivers and passengers! Therefore, if you know the license plate and company name of the delivery truck....call the company and report it. The company's insurance will have to pay for your's friends damage.

My experience living up in the bay area for 5 years for college taught me a lot about the wrath of parking and parallel parking. I'm pretty sure many other college towns and urban areas are like this. Parallel parking on the hills is a PITA. Same is true about the Hollywood area and Westside L.A. People are just plain inconsiderate. My front and rear bumpers are scratched up because of these poor parkers. I've also seen quite a few senior citizens who just are clueless about parking, bumping back and forth. One of the pluses of living in suburban sprawl is not having to deal with this.

When I had my integra, I was parallel parked on the street. GF and I were just talking, and this Toyota Camry pulls up and decides to park in front of me. So as I'm watching this guy slowly back up and I mean slowly.....until he hits my bumper then he parks and gets out like nothing happened. My girl was more mad at him then me and started yelling at the guy, he said sorry and left no damage to either car...but come on...ppl need to learn to drive/park.

More recently, someone hit the left rear side of my TL's bumper and scratched all up in the parking lot. Never found out who it was...be aware of Wal-Mart parking lots! Now I have to have my bumper repainted and fixed, theres a gap between the bumper and rear panel...sigh.

And yesterday! GF and I were at her college parking lot eating some pizza slices. When this black Lexus GS decided to park beside my car...even though the lot was only 10% full. So there I am munching away on my slice, when this stupid old hag gets out of the passenger door and slams it right into my side mirror! I just looked at her like wtf!? She didn't even notice! Now there was plenty of distance between both cars and she was a twig didn't have to open the door to full length. So I rolled down the window and was like "hey can't you watch when you open the door u hit my car!" She just replied "no I didn't".....that made me even more mad but I kepy my cool and checked the side mirror and told her "ya u did watch when you open the door". She said sorry and left....stupid old....

To me I don't know why people don't give a damn about their own car or somebody elses car. Esp in high school/college parking lots or supermarket parking lots around my area.

seems a lot of people are having these problems, esp you SSTL... damn seriously - that's really bad luck. Yeah and I agree with you korrupted, it is the price we pay for living in a big city.

I think the solution is to get a big SUV with metal grill/bumper guards. If anyone overdoes it with the parking, CRACKKK!

I want some spikes for the TL.. too bad that would be illegal ;[

What i notice is that the threshold for qualifying drivers to get license in US is really low. I see stupid chicks who have been barely behind the wheels or grandma who can barely see the colors on the eye exam easily get a license in no time. Both of them are dangerous drivers. In my country, everyone has to attend 3 month long intensive training course that includes at least 4 hours of cty driving per week, intensive theory. It is also mandatory to learn the stick shift to get a license. After 3 month, you have 3 times to pass the exam to get license, each exam will involve driving test where you will do at least all of this: start the car uphill and move without rolling back using stickshift, parallel parking, back up parking.

There is a reason I park as far away from any other car as possible. Walking burns fat, why be lazy and get all bent out of shape over some jackass hitting my car?

Sounds just like me, except in my case, i was fucked by my own neighbor overnight. came home. parked. slept. woke up in the morning. came out. my door didnt open, so i checked why, and i see my drivers side fender bent in a good inch and a half or so. had to remove the splash guard and bang it back out. i finally got it fixed with my swap. cant wait to see the car tomorrow.

Dont know about you, but when I park far away from everyone else, and come back theres always like 5 other cars that decide to park beside me!....maybe they all think aww look at that poor tl all by itself. Atleast ppl who park far away from others are more considerate when opening doors etc.

I've definitely had that happen, but most of the time it seems to be nice Mercedes or BMW's. That is another reason to park on an end spot, you only have one idiot to deal with.

I don't park on the street in philly anymore. I had someone hit the TL's rear bumper and leave two marks from their front plate. Small, but noticeable to me. Now I park one the top level in a little corner of a very tall parking garage. Never seen another car anywhere close to mine there.
