I noticed that my car makes "clicking" noises after I shut off my car for a couple minutes..then it stops. I know that this is called valve tapping and is usually caused by switching to Synthetic too early on a new car..but I am still using the standard oil..so I'm confused here. Should I be worried? Thanks..

 

The clicking noises heard after the car is shut off is not valve tapping. That's just the sound new cars make as the engine seasons. Every new car I've ever had does this; no problems.

 

There has been discussion about this in other threads. I know that Type S Lady has experienced it, as have I. I experience it 100% of the time (although you have to listen for it).

She was going to take hers into the dealership to see what it might be. I have the feeling that they will tell her it's normal.

Although weird sounding, it probably is normal.

 

What your are hearing is the sound of various metals cooling. As we know metal expands are contracts on small levels when its temp is changed. Usually the exhaust is the culprit since its hollow therefore amplifying these tiny sounds. All systems normal bro.

 

Sorry - got the wrong read from the original post. Yeah - if you hear the ticking when the engine's off it's metal cooling as racinghart03 wrote.
