Value Decrease
Just thought you guys want care to know that when I brought my car to dealer for service and inquired about trading it in for another car they had, they said I was driving a "discontinued" model that was worth significantly less had it not been "replaced"
I certainly knew our cars would take a hit but I guess I'm just disappointed. At least it was a good value to begin with....
Anybody else seen the effects this has had so far??
I might as well mod this thing now...I want :flamer: to come out of my exhaust....doesn't comptech do something like that?
ps - I have 16K on my 2003 tl - s. no navi.

I bet they don't say that to customers currently shopping for the 03 model...... Most dealers suck, looking to knock $$ off your trade-in. The truth of the matter is though, that once a new style of the model comes out or is re-designed the one being replaced takes a hit, but it shouldn't be substantial.

Ok, listen. First you have to realize that the Acura salespeople are just that -- car salesmen. Salespeople have one purpose in life -- to get as much money from you as possible without you walking out the door on them.
You have to bargain with them on trade-in value as much as purchase price on a new vehicle. You can be sure that they will make you a low-ball offer on their first negotiation. Their first offer to you is not some kind of Kelly Blue Book value of the vehicle. Heck, if he thought you'd accept $100 for the trade-in value, he would have offered you that. That would'nt mean the value of our almost new TL-S's is $100!
That said, a car's value is "worth" only as much as someone is willing to pay for it (this applies to EVERYTHING, not just cars). The sooner you realize this fact, the better your life will be.

Oh, another thing. Trade-in value is somewhat less than true "resale" value. Don't forget that the trade-in amount is more or less a wholesale amount. The reseller of your trade-in isn't going to sell the traded-in TL-S at the price he paid for it, they need to make a profit to keep their doors open! Consider this a lesson in Economics 101.

While the dealer is full of BS, the TLs pricing has come down. I purchased an 03 TLs without NAV last August for $29.5 and I can get the same thing for $28.5 now.
I inquired about a trade a few weeks ago and was offered $24K for my TLs if I decided to go with a MDX touring.
You also have to rember that your car loses a lot of it's value initially.

Discontinued model? Ha, I guess he's referring to the new TL design. Typical salesman talk to get you to unload your car cheap so they can make big profits. You should have said, "Oh really? The sticker price on those new TL-S's doen't reflect the fact that they're being discontinued."
