V1 ????

Looking online I saw the V1 radar detector selling for $399, but there is a smaller piece that looks exactly the same as the bigger piece but it is only $39...What is the difference....

oh yeah the site is HERE

The $39 thing is just a display.. you still need a V1 to use that.

What about THIS ONE

It says it is the best in the world but I hear so many people praise the V1. And this one is like $70 cheaper

I wouldn't use ANYTHING but the V1. It is the "Zaino" of radar dectors. Spend the extra $70.00.... it will pay for itself in no time : )

i have the V1 and the 8500 and the 8500 is far better than the V1. the only thing i really liked about the V1 was the directional arrows. i like the advanced mode on the 8500, how it will show up to like 12 or more and the strength of each band at once, and the volt meter is a nice feature also that and its alot smaller. i gave my V1 to my girl friend and she likes the 8500 better also.

Interesting...

Personally I had the 8500 and got rid of it for the V1 after I got a ticket that would have been avoided if my 8500 had warned me in time. I can tell you that my experience with the V1 has been great. It has definately saved my a$$ on more then one occassion : ) I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I suggust buying both systems, testing them yourself, and then return the one you don't like.

V1 is the best... however, I have heard the 8500 isn't bad.

There is a reason why the V1 wins all the competitions in C&D you know..Both of mine have paid for themselves over and over again, sometimes I think it was my best "mod"...
But, yeah, definitely go V1, it's the best, just ask Car & Driver..

I purchased both and I will say that I enjoy the V1 much better. The directional arrows are the selling point. I say V1.

the advanced meter is far superior to the V1 on the 8500, i found the 8500 to have far better range(atleast 2-5 seconds) that and it looks better

Depends, if less than ten over 8500, More than 10 over V-1!
Unless you have deep pocketts.

the reason the V1 is so frikin ugly is because its shielded. the escort is not. the escort is vulnerable to interference, and it gives off the standard radiation that most radar detectors do.

the V1, if you crack the case, the entire antenna assembly (basically the entire unit on the inside) is enclosed in a really weird looking shielding and amplification housing. thus its so ugly.

but ive gotten used to the look and now i prefer the look of my V1 over the standard radar detectors.

Not to mention the V1 is upgradeable.

Judging by the response, obviously no one has heard of it... Get a V1 or 8500.

I've had my V1 for 2 years and love it. I've heard *a little * about the Passport but I got the V1 because I love the directional arrows and have heard, from many, only good things about it. I personally don't find my V1 to be very bulky or even ugly. I'm so used to it that I find the 8500 ugly because it looks like every other radar detector.

The V1 has saved me a few times. It's well worth the money! One thing I also like is that it uses a RJ-11 cord for the power. I think that's just awesome. RJ-11s are thin, sleak, and easy to hide whether or not you are hardwiring. It is indeed upgradable and programmable.

My $0.02...

Both the V1 and 8500 are upgradable. Both have reviews that claim they are the best. i.e. V1=C&D, 8500=MotorTrend. Both are very good detectors (Best available currently). Just read the reviews and make your decision. You will always have 8500 and V1 loyalist.

*Disclaimer: I have the 8500 but the V1 are awesome too. My decision came down to me saving $100 on the 8500
