UPS Does it Again!

Well, I ordered an OEM spoiler for my car because the price was right, finally got it today after a week of waiting, and the paint is all fucked up. I ordered Taffeta White so I wouldn't have to repaint it or anything, and as soon as I open it I notice it's dirty as hell, has knicks all over it, has paint completely missing in one spot. I guess I'll be putting this project on hold for the time being

Where did you order it from?
Was it shipped messed up or did UPS do it?

Bought it off of a Honda/Acura dealership on ebay, and I would assume UPS are the ones who messed it up. They seem to be the biggest bunch of incompetent losers ever.

Thought I should add, last week I got what was supposed to be the rubber mount for my CAI, except I only ended up with an empty envelope. I called UPS and they told me tough shit.

How can you blame the UPS for stuff like these. The OEM spoiler was not packaged correctly, therefore the shipping company may have possibly damaged it. Blame the shipper.

Second, your envelope came from the shipping company. Why would UPS steal your rubber mount? It's not like they took it out and resealed it.

If UPS wasn't a bunch of fucktards the box wouldn't have been beat to shit, and my spoiler would be fine Oh, and they didn't steal the rubber mount, there was just a hole the size of the mount in the side of the envelope, again, shows how well they treat their packages.

You do take the risk of your package being damaged when it's shipped, that's what insurance is for.

UPS could handle their packages better .. but what are you going to do about it? lol.

They should change their name to OOPS

But yeah usually when somethings comes back smashed its as much the fault of the packaging as it is the handler, if your spoiler was wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a sturdy box it would've been safe from any underpaid moron that happened to get his grubby mitts on it before it arrived at your house. Hope you had enough insurance to cover the cost.

Well this is the box Acura shipped it to the dealerships in, so I figure that might have been its saving grace, yet it's still not good looking. From the looks of the ad they only have $100 worth of insurance, less than I paid, and a hell of a lot less than the spoiler will cost me from my local dealership.

Man, just file a claim with UPS, get the $100 and have it repainted. They will pay it to you but it takes time. I have had this happen before.

Out of my years with UPS, the only problem I ever had was them not shipping my product and then having to tell me that nobody was home to receive it. I was at home at the time of shipment.

I have nothing against UPS, just speaking from the truth, but they are just not handling the packages properly. Received damages packages from them most of the time. Any slightly oversize package or slightly overweight, they will bit the $hit out if it, and if they are oversize, overweight, make sure they are well packed or make sure you have insurance. Choose the right shipper for your packages.

every time i ship whether with UPS, DHL, or FedEx, i always keep my fingers crossed. i don't think UPS messes any more than the other delivery companies, but they really need to be more careful with handling people's "goods."

when the ps3 debuted about a year ago i bought one on ebay. of course i overpaid for it because you couldnt buy them in stores, i paid a total of $940 for it.

UPS delivered it to the wrong house!!!!! i lucked out and asked around the neighborhood and eventually found it was delivered to the wrong house!!!! it was in someones backyard, the box had been snowed and rained on and pretty much beatup by the weather!!!! lucky for me nobody found it and it was in working condition!

avoid ups at all costs if you can, they are horrible.

only problem is if the package is oversized then you pretty much have to go with ups.

Well for starters if something is WRONG contact the people who shipped it Dont piss and moan about UPS. Its VERY possible that that box was all beat up in the transport to the dealer, or at the dealer. It could have alos been improperly packaged as well. Ive never had issues with ups, but if you have a problem you should be contacting the seller and not complaining here.

dealer would have returned the part to AHM if there was damage to the box, they inspect all parts when receiving for this very issue.

Wait - so you're telling me they flat-out LIED to you about not being home when they delivered your package and you are still defending them?!?!

Bottom line - UPS f'ing sux. I really do think that FedEx ground is better (and incidentally cheaper). See my avatar? That's called powered paragliding (PPG). The motor on my back is worth about $5K and I shipped it UPS once and they damaged it. Fortunately it only cost $400 to have fixed, which they paid me under insurance after a few months of biitching and moaning.

When my friends ship their PPG motors via UPS, I always telll them to imagine dropping it onto a hard concrete surface from a minimum of 10 feet. That's how well it needs to be packaged before trusting UPS with your shiit. That is the only way your contents will arrive undamaged by UPS. My motor box looked like someone tossed it a good distance, and THEN DRAGGED it on the ground. Some of my engine parts had long groove marks in them. Just a complete joke. They suk. I try to use FedEx Ground most of the time, but they are not immune to these problems either. They are just a little bit better in my opinion.

A few hints for those shipping large, expensive items:
1) You can just take your stuff to a UPS Store (or other packaging store) and pay them to package it up for you. Those guys know how the shipper treats packages so they know how to keep your shiit safe. Not to mention, if they package it, they can also be held liable for damages (although you should still get the insurance). Paying them to package it is surprisingly not too expensive either - The shipping costs for my motor is $150 (to Albuquerque from VA) and it was only an extra ~$40 to have them package it. Cheap peace of mind.
2) You can use the bus lines like Greyhound to do large package shipping. It is unbelievably fast and cheap - like 60% of a UPS charge for the same box. The big drawback here is that they will only ship bus depot to bus depot. So, for me, I would have had to go to the Washington, DC bus depot and pick up my package at the Albuquerque bus depot. But the same package was like $90 to ship.

But, yeah , 2005TaffetaTL, you should go back to the dealer and let them know the product is damaged. Usually these retailers know how well something needs to be packed before shipping it UPS, so they should take responsibility and get you another one.

I know why you would be mad. Maybe it's just a few areas, where they have workers that doesn't take their job seriously.

On other note, I just shipped my broken Rock Band guitar back to EA through UPS. =]

Ive had stuff damaged and many days late with FedEx, Never with UPS. FedEX to me Sucks and ups is the best. Dont even get me started with DHL. They tossed my laptop from about 15 feet onto my porch cause the ass was too lazy to walk up and set it on the porch and ring the bell.

And that damage looks more like improperly packaged and was rubbing on the cardboard than damage due to transporter.

if you tend to get a lot of packages from UPS and its the same UPS guy, maybe slipping him some christmas money at the end of the year might help. Thats what i do...one time, he actually came back to my apt twice in one day cause he knew i would be home the 2nd time. How many delivery people do that??

Well, I contacted the seller and he offered me half of what I paid back. That seems good enough to me. I will be putting the spoiler on tomorrow.

The only problem I have is them leaving packages on my front doorstep that required a signature. I just have them sent to my work so I know it will be received.

No. He said rather than have me send it back and get another one shipped that he'd pay me what it'd cost to repaint. I highly, highly doubt that such a reputable seller on ebay would send me shit. Again, UPS does suck. The seller has 13700 positive feedback with 99.8%, certainly doesn't seem like the problem would be on his end

Even though your picture is lousy, the dark spot is clearly caused by prolonged rubbing on the inside of the package. It rubbed so long it wore through the paint.

The spoiler was dirty? Wash it.

I await your explanation for how the spoiler could have gotten 'knicks' all over while inside a box and how UPS could have done it.

Do you think the shipper actually opens the box and inspects the spoiler before shipping? They ordered it from Acura 6 or 7 years ago and it has sat in the same box for that long. The box has probably moved a lot as well. That's how the paint wore off.

My OEM spoiler came in a similar box directly from an Acura dealer.

None of these problems were caused by UPS.

Agree. Trying to put the blame on UPS is just looking for a person to blame, and they are the easy one to do so. It could have been any one and it took some time to rub the paint off like that

i agree...that is why its up to the shipper to pack the merchandise well. Common sense tells you that the shipping company isnt going to handle all packages with care.
