Upgrading brakes from OEM to slotted - things to consider? Recommendations ....

Updating the brakes all around on my 02 TL and would like to switch to nice slotted brakes. I see a few full sets on Ebay but I'm not exactly sure what I should be looking for. I also see pricing differs from $150-500+ for a full set of front/ rear brakes and pads. Not too sure what the big price difference offers as per quality vs increased price.

Any advice on the type of brakes I should be looking for, or a good brand and model number you've had success with are really appreciated. Thx!

rockauto.com just get a solid set of blanks instead.. Slotted do nothing for everyday driving. Rockauto also sells slotted rotors if you feel like you want that look.

Some would say slotted rotors are an upgrade from a looks perspective, but from a braking perspective, no, definitely a down grade.

I'd semi-agree with this statement. Pads and Pad material are more important than drilled/slotted rotors in my opinion. I put ebay drilled/slotted rotors on my Subi 3.6R and they are fantastic, but they sourced powerstop race pads (all for 200$~) and on my 99TL i put slotted rotor w/ generic pads and spent almost 400$ and they were crap. I overheated them and had massive brake fade more often than I would with the Subi. It really depends.

I've had good experience with my drilled/slotted rotors, great stopping power, no fade, no more warping rotors; solid downhill braking,

perhaps your different experience subi vs acura was partially due to being on different vehicles all together? our Acuras are really heavy up front and as a result the braking system sends most of the braking power up front as to not lock up the rear brakes.

The two are apples and oranges for sure. But, I chalk it up to quality of parts as posed to cars themselves.

Just curious. In my case, usually every 8-10k miles, the front single pot OEM calipers caused rotor warpage until I switched them to the duel pot calipers from the 95 GS Legend years back. Haven't had the rotor warpage problem since.

whitetiger5, are you still running the single pot OEM calipers on your 2G TL-S? If so, what rotors are you using to have 'no warpage' success.
