Question Upgrading to 03 TL from 99 TL - tranny questions

So I know them say 99 trannys are better then the other 2nd-generation TL.

So I want to ask 2 question:

1. If I buy 2003, where can I check if VIN is covered and am I right that I have untill this year to get replacement for free? I look at FAQ: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-problems-fixes-117/under-construction-transmission-problem-faq-please-read-before-posting-573111/

but it does not tell.

2. If I not covered, what is good warranty to buy for security

The info is in the trans thread, OR you can enter the vin into acuras site and it will tell you. Depending on the sale date of the car you may not have a year now that its 2010, the car may have been sold in 02 as an 03. Also the mileage may put it over.

As for aftermarket warranty?

Hello fsttyms1,

Tx you for information, I did not think to look at the Acura site. I found the search page here: http://owners.acura.com/recalls/

I have a VIN that I want to check, so I put it inthe page. I get the result:
-------------
Your Acura is included in the 00-04 CL & TL A/T RECALL Campaign.
Description 00-04 CL & TL A/T RECALL
Date 06/29/2004
Type
Recall Customer Letter
Status Fixed
---------------------
It looks like ti was fixed before. Will Acura tell me when it was fixed if I called dealer with VIN? I searched more and I hear that fixed before 2005 = no good. I also click the blue link and it say it might be oil jet or a new transmission, will they tell me which?

Warranty -I mean ones that you can buy from other than the dealer, like a regular company.

I appreciate ur timely responses.

Humm it should say "open" if its still covered. You can call customer service and they will tell you for sure. The status fixed is that they installed the oiljet which is for something completely different.

And as for warranty?? I dont know. I have never bought one.

You can also call any dealership, or Acura. Give them the VIN and they will tell you. I have an 03 TL Type-S. Bought it with 31K, now has 88K, Tranny is still nice and tight just like the day I bought it. Mine is one of the VIN's not covered.

looks like the recall oil jet kit was installed, when doesnt really matter
AND NOT covered VIN on the extended warranty, a late 03?

whats the date of manufacture on the door
look at the vin list of covered cars- you are in it or your not

register with acura 1-800-382-2238x5 as new owner and ask if any open recalls or extended trans warranty

Note: many of us will be getting recall notice for the airbag problem- register at that number so they have your current address

I am looking to do the same...called acura, the car I am looking at is NOT covered by the extended warranty. Only recall item on this particular car was the 2nd gear thing...which they said was fixed on this car....still unsure as to whether I should buy this car. Only has 80K on it...looks great...any input from anyone??

all you got was the external oil jet installed at recall
NOT a replacement trans! which they did if that the trans had certain heat damage.

even though `not covered vin` Goodwill warranty is possible if you get a failure
Dont think its a great trans till it makes 150

Look online for aftermarket warranty covering the trans specifically
Ask the service Manager at dealer what companies they like to deal with

$1,800 for 30,000 mile coverage, I think it was 30 months. For that, I'm pretty close to a new transmission anyway, aren't I?

rebuilding your trans ~2500
shop around for other options on extended warranty- you can get them to cover as many miles as you plan to own the car- up to 250!

go to http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx
register the car by VIN- it will then let you into the RECALL section for you to look it up

OR call the dealer service dept and give them the VIN, they run it and tell you if covered in seconds!

or do an internet search for `covered vins acura trans warranty`- if your car is later than the last one,,,,not covered,,unless pretty close after- those get goodwill fairly easy

You should just buy an 04 tranny. I know the manual trannys match up, I don't see why the auto wouldn't.
