Unique question about my Saber

Yes, the header is correct. I own a 1999 Honda Saber with about 60 KM on the odometer. This forum seems to be informitive, so I joined hoping to find out about my car and maybe give something back to the community at large.

I know this model is manufactured in the states, but mine is a 25V (a GF-UA4 model) with the 2.5 L VTEC engine, factory DVD Navigation system, and stock 15" aluminum wheels. My question is in relation to the brakes.

I am looking to upgrade the brakes and I want to buy from the US. Now, 99.9 percent of my driving involves city traffic, stop and go type. So I'm looking for very good stopping from about 40 mph to 0 (traffic here is bad). If it helps, I can take pictures of the rotors / brake assembly to ensure compatibility.

If requested, I will post the pictures of my ride, as I mentioned it is bone STOCK with Honda accessories on it only.

Comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Where I live

I live in Okinawa, Japan. It's a tiny island about 400 miles NW of Taiwan.

Same chassis, same suspension architecture, meaning component compatability.

However, I don't know if the Saber has a 4-lug or a 5-lug bolt pattern... They could've used 4-lug on the base models. If 5-lug, basically anything available for the '99-'03 TL will work on your car. If 4-lug, then look for parts that are made for the '98-'02 Honda Accord 4-cylinder, because those had a 4-lug bolt pattern.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks

Pure AD - It is a 5 bolt lug pattern, with the rotors held in by two phillips screws and a retainer bracket around it to affix the caliper (with two slide bolts for caliper movement)...Thanks and now that I know they are the same, I think I'll go to the Tire Rack and get what I need....

Excellent. Also look into Rotora rotors; they are great products. Last time I checked, they were going for just over 400 dollars shipped for all 4 rotors and pads. Check with an authorized vendor Excelerate here (send him a private message).

Good luck.

Pure AD

Do you mean Rotera? If not, then I am mistaken. I have been to the Rotera website, but if I can get some brakes shipped to me via US Postal Service, that will work (no FedEX or UPS here, unless you want to pay some serious $$$$$). I'll drop a line and see what he can do.

No, I meant Rotora. I've never heard of Rotera. They are good stuff.

Good luck.

Arrow I went a different way

Pure AD, your tip led to them being out of stock. I really needed brakes and went with Power Stop slotted rotors with Akebono pads. These should work. I going with Performance pro pads for the rear, and kept the stock rotors (for now). I don't put much mileage on the car, but I do alot of stop-andgo driving.

My pics are up in the photo gallery (my 1999 Saber)

I have a question for ya, mrmako. Was the Inspire available with the 260-hp Type-S version? If it was, what was it called?

Both the Inspire and Saber were available as a Type S. Basically, the models were 25V/25VNavi/32V/32VNavi and 32V Type S. The only engines were the 2.5 with 200 ps and the 3.2 US market engine with 240 PS (210 and 260 hp roughly)

The type S got the slightly rounded headlight treatment and the bigger grill like the US. The NAvi editions were full to the gills with options including leather, navi, etc... I'll ask my cousin, he's the head of the service department at a Honda Clio dealer.

You must be lucky, he must be able to give you access to many aftermarket parts for your car

The big thing I get is discount dealer service calls. That plus recall notifications (there was one for my ignition switch).

It's called Honda Inspire 32V TYPE-S
but just a reminder....there's no cruise control for JDM Inspire nor Saber...plus no auto dimming mirror I guess

Yes...as I know so far....JDM Type S comes with leather standard
but unfortunately...I don't see any JDM Inspire nor Saber equipped with sunroof in Japan and Hong Kong.

Go to "my 1999 Saber" in the pictures gallery and you'll see my chrome shiftgate. This was standard with this car.

Red face Saber intake question

Here's a picture of my airbox / intake system:

and another:

My question is this: IS this the same box as the USDM TL? I want to do a cold air intake, and I'm having a tough go finding mods I can put on this car (very few moders here with this type of engine). The box has a AC6 FILTECH INC. designation on it. Does this help? Any help is appreciated.

you could find out by cross refrencing the air filter numbers, if they both use the same filter then you've got the same filter box..I would say yes, they look identical...but there could be differences... I wouldtrythe filter part #'s they wouldbe abletohelp out alot here

If you wanted an aftermarket CAI made, I'm fiddling with the idea of making my own CAI for the TL and TL-S ,and you are really stuck trying to get a CAI for your 25V, We could walk you through a way of making one yourself.

The rotors did not work

Good luck.

I received the Power slot rotors from the Tire Rack (love those guys), but they are bigger than mine. Here's my theory: on the Saber 25V, they used smaller brakes (I beleive from the accord, but still a 5 bolt pattern) and 15 inch wheels.

The 32V and the Type S have 16 inch wheels as standard, so I bet they have the bigger brakes....

OR

For the Japanese market, they put smaller nrakes on because speeds here are alot slower. No need for the big brakes.

The funny thing is the pads (Akebono front and Pro performance in the rear) matched perfectly...Hmmmmm

I think the rotor I got sent will work on the wife's Odyssey. I'll let all of you know as I go with this...
