damn... that's pretty good... I used to get 360km/tank back in Toronto...

now I am getting about 200km/half tank which is about 400km/tank

if I drive mainly on highways like between London and Toronto, I have seen 600km/tank could do more cuz the low gas light weren't even on...

Oh, I do drive like a granny

The AEM CAI did help a lot in gas mileage. Before, when I was totally stock, I was fluctuating between 400 to 450 km/tank(July '00 - March '01). After I installed the CAI, I've been hitting 500 km/tank consistently(March '01 - present).

When I fill up at the 500 km mark(+/- 15 km) I still have several litres in the tank. Usually, I can only cram in about 57-58 litres(I've only filled up once to 62 litres...I did 530 km that time). I'm pretty sure I can hit at least 550 km/tank, though. But, I'm never going to risk it.

I get about 400 KMS/tank of city driving in Toronto. Not sure what the highway mileage is.

Crap, that's awesome! I wonder if that extra gear helps. I have a '99 and I only get 400-430kms. I have a CAI too, but it didn't make that much of a difference. The headers didn't take anything away from fuel economy?

Could be. I always drive in D5 and hardly ever go over 3000 rpm.

Also, I usually don't use the SS...once in a while, I switch over to see what gear I'm in...mostly 4th gear.

Headers and pulleys did not make any difference.

fuel economy

I get about:

city (500 km) -- with vapour left in tank
highway (600-650 km).

Fuel economy has gotten much better after the 12000 km service. (Perhaps really dirty oil?)

One thing is for sure: if you can ever get US (at least from Michigan) gasoline from Mobil premium. I got over 700 km on a tank from Windsor -> Toronto (and almost back). That's impressive.

BTW, I religiously use Shell Optimax Gold.

I usually get 550 to 600 KMs to a tanks when the fuel light comes on and I understand there is still 10 litres left. All my driving is highway. To derrick, FYI, Shell had an additive in their fuel, that cause sludge in the fuel tank that damaged the fuel pump. Over 2500 claims in Canada. I usually use Esso, Sunoco or the dreaded Petro Canada.

Fuel Recommendation

I haven't really had much of a chance to measure my fuel consumption since I started driving my late Dad's car. I will report back once I have some numbers.

I noticed someone frowning on the use of Shell gas. What type of fuel do others run? What have your exeperiences been with Pioneer 93? I appreciate that using a higher octane fuel than is required will not improve performance, but is ther much of a negative effect from using an oxygenated fuel such as this? How much is mileage affected?

Do these fuel burn cleaner? Do they really put more detergent in high octane Petro Canada gas?

I always keep track in imperial gallons, I just returned from a 8,000km trip and usually got 34-35mpg, on the highway of course.

thanks speed...

several US owners have spotted similar paint imperfections...pattern seems to indicate that the imperfections are (more) visible with light coloured TLs (e.g., metallic silver, gold)...

further input would be appreciated...

thanks

PS i'm not sure if you are as neurotic as I am...but these imperfections are basically only visible at 'hand washing' distance

PPS I just got over 400kms on 34L of supreme gas (Esso)...even mix of city and highway driving...

Unhappy

Damn, I've been watching my fuel consumption this summer and I haven't been able to get anywhere close to what Acura claims!

Acura claims City: 12.2 L/100km; Highway: 7.4 L/100km
My actual is for City: 14 L/100km; Highway: 10 L/100km

I'm a Canadian TLS owner and I have some paint imperfections on the trunk lid... looks like it was touched up at the factory before they applied the clear coat. I was quite surprised to see that on a car of this alleged quality...

I avg. about 550-580kms when the gas light comes on. I drive about 70% Hwy and 30% City in SS mode. Chevron 92 all the time.

I average around 400km in the summer and 375 during the colder, winter months. 90% of it is city driving. I average around 12.2L/100km.

However, on my trip to Calgary, I got almost 600km per tank. I think I could have gotten more but no point in pushing it when travelling in remote mountain areas.

The TL is awesome on the highway but performs poorly in the city. Does the CAI really help in increasing efficiency?

I let my Palm Pilot do all the math with a great little program called Automobile. At my last fuel up... I got 10.0km/litre with an overall average (after 1 year - winter/summer) is 9.7km/litre, thats MOSTLY city..gets much better on the highway.
As far as gaz in conserned.. I usualy get Sunoco (94), then Esso or Petro-Can or McEwen(gaz-ohol)

as for one of two paint blips under the clear coat... I didnt bother with them...

I have an '03 TLS I bought in Markham and it has very minor paint imperfections on the trunk. Looks like it was touched up before clearcoating...

Oh, and I get 450 to 470k to a tank of gas, with the AC on... I refuel when the light comes on. Car has only 3300km on it.

Guys...

Is it wise to wait for the light to re-fuel...I don't think doing it consistently is good for your fuel pump... I think it uses fuel for lubrication (at least that's what I read somewhere) I could be wrong...

BTW I usually get about 500-520kms / tank on about 45L (like I said above I don't like running the car dry so I usually fill up between 1/4 and 1/8th.)... but thats mostly hwy.. don't drive on the city much.

OH and its always been SUNOCO 94....

TL RULZ, that works out to 8.8 litre /100km or about 20% higher than Acura Canada's 7.2 litre /100km.

According to their numbers we should be able to get about 675km per 50 litre tank on the highway. Wonder what their secret is?

This litre per 100km business is stupid. I like the U.S. approach of miles per gallon (or in our case km per litre). That makes a lot more sense to me.

Yeah! I don't know .. but I can't complain.. Its better than most american cars...

You sure it was 675 / 50L tank... cause I think our tank is 65 L so why do they quote 50L. Just asking cause like I said earlier ... I usually have 15-20L in the tank when I fill up so I'm sure I could hit 600+ kms.. The highest I hit was 592kms and still the light did not come on... I think I put in 51L that time but the needle was almost touching the red but not quite on it... How far do you have to go for the light ?

Filling up from "E" is about 50 litres...so there must still be another 15 litres. But I don't want to find out the hard way if there really is another 15 litres after "E"

I think my light comes on after 45-47 litres is consumed.
