Typical Acura screw-up

I took my car to the dealer yesterday for its first minor service (7500 miles) and they told me that it needed a window recall. How come Acura did not send me a notice about this The service also sucks... I had to wait at the dealership for an hour and a half twiddling my thumbs.

Lexus comes to my **work place**, flatbeds my RX and brings it back to work when they're done...what a difference!

I've heard of BMW doing the flatbed thing for 7-series owners. Do all Lexus dealers offer that kind of service for all their vehicles? If so, all I can say is WOW!

Not all Lexus dealers have the flat-bed service. Longo has it and those that do will pick up and deliver ANY Lexus. Lexus service is second to none as far as I am concerned. However, I have been pleased with Downey Acura.

It doesn't have to be a Lexus for great service.

I can bring my Sabb 9-3 in to my Saab dealer have them check the air pressure in my tires and they'll offer me a loaner, wash my car, and/or shuttle me to work if I want.

MY Jeep dealer also offered free loaners for the asking, and the entire time I sat in the dealership, I was treated like a king - they pre-warm or pre-cool my Jeep, do the entire write up in a clean close garage out of the elements, and call constantly to update me on the status of any service or repair.

With Acura, ask for a loaner and they stare at you as if you're from another planet.

A recent JD Power survey showed that Acura was dead LAST in all luxury car makes in customer satisfaction - and its no mystery why.

As the saying goes, YMMV. The place I go to (Pleasanton Acura) will give you a loaner car if they need to hold your car for more than a day. Perhaps the Lexus and BMW dealers may give you a loaner even for just an oil change (and even that might be a bit too much even for them) but IMHO I can't see any other dealership doing so for services that don't require them to hold your car for more than half a day and/or for less expensive services (oil change, tire rotation, etc.).

Woodfield Acura gave me a loaner. Initially we thought it would only be a couple of hours and I figured I would wait. The service manager said to me "you don't wanna sit around here. Here take a loaner and I'll call you when it's done". I was impressed. Once serviced the car was vacuumed and hand washed.

I have no complaints.

I will instantly admit that Lexus service has Acura service beat, for the most part, hands down. However, it's been said before but is worth repeating: YMMV. It's all about the dealer itself. Not only won't my friends Lexus dealer do anything remotely resembling flatbedding his IS300 to him after service, but they reserve the right to choose whether or not they wash your car based on how dirty THEY think it looks.

As far as your window "recall" that you weren't notified of... I think recall is a misnomer. 9 times out of 10 people assume recall is a synonym for service bulletin and the two couldn't be any more opposite.

I own a Lexus and a TL-S. The Lexus service is terrible compared to Acura. I had a steering wheel nut recall on the Lexus. Not only did I not get a loaner, I had to call a freind to take me to work. They kept the car overnight too! I complained about this lack of concern for the customer and all I got was "sorry about that".

I do not think you are a typical Acura screw-up!

Still, for the extra dough Lexus gets for its red carpet carriage trade treatment, you could have it flatbedded yourself, have a limo pick you up and drop you off, gets some fancy coffee at Starbucks, and still have enough change for a nice motorcycle.
