Type Of Transmission Fluid?

Ok, so I have read in a few of the tranny fluid flush threads, that they used Honda ATF Z1, redline, BG. I went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up some transmission fluid and they guy saw me pull in and was like, “we can help you with your transmission.” I was confused, obviously. Apparently, from what he told me, is that anything Honda should always be replaced with Honda transmission fluid. Is this true or was this guy just telling me about a story he must have heard once? I hopefully will be doing this during this upcoming week; with this awesome weather!

Wow, so I called to see how much it was for a quart of Honda tranny fluid. I first called Acura and they told me it was just over $9.00/quart. That's a lot of money, so I called a Honda dealer and asked them, theirs costs just over $6.00/quart for the same stuff. When I'm buying several quarts, that will make quite a difference. Didn't expect that at all.

clair acura in north hampton NH sells it for 4.75 a quart last time I bought some. I think that's a damn reasonable price. You guys don't think amsoil ATF is better than Z1 in our tranny's? I used amsoil for the last 15-20k miles when my tranny started to fail and I think it may have prolonged my tranny's life a little, but there's no way to tell.

At one time, I was the biggest proponent of "genuine Honda ATF Z1 ONLY". I finally decided to try Amsoil ATF and so far it's working perfectly. Of course there's no guarantee it'll prevent a tranny dump but I figure synthetic fluid in a tranny won't hurt.

I have a tranny put in by AAMCO (I think they rebuilt the original)... would I still put in the ATF Z1 or an aftermarket Transmission fluid?

and...if the car is parked on level ground and is OFF and I take the dipstick out...should there be a lot of transmission fluid showing? It's only showing a little fluid....but when I start it and run the car then pull the dip stick; the tranny oil seems to go past half the dip stick (showing that there is enough fluid)

I would only use the honda ATF Z1. just buy it from honda. acura always increases the price. but now a days the price is almost the same in vegas. if your tranny is under the warranty i would suggest the honda ATF.

Im not sure about it but i know if you use a different fluid other than the honda ATF they can deny the warranty?? someone chime in on this but i think it does void it cause the Honda ATF if designed for the honda trannys. but not sure. i know someone might have encountered it but i only used the Honda ATF just to be safe. its made by idmitsu (sp?) its a pretty good engineering company for fluid. but its up to you though.
