Type S - First offer without haggling back & forth .....
Hi Guys, thinking of putting in a offer for a Type S this week and hate negotiating back and forth. Just wanted the forum's opinion on percentage off MSRP (irregardless of whether you're from Canada or the States). Where do you think I should start the offer (the offer should still be realistic and do-able ) 5 - 7% off list ?? Opinions. Thanks in advance.

You should always negotiate up from invoice not down from MSRP. Go to edmonds.com and you can find the dealer invoice. Usually you would negotiate 4-8% up, but in the case of the TL-S, it may be much more since most of us (myself included) paid full MSRP. Good luck!

Work up from the Invoice price instead of working off the MSRP. General rule of thumb is around 5% above invoice. May be tough to strike that good a deal so early in the game, but it's a good place to start. Go to Edmunds TownHall Smart Shopper area and you will get a good idea of what others are paying. Be aware that if you name a price first then you set the bottom price in the negotiation, and you will never be able to pay less than you're offer. Let the dealer make the first offer, you're price point is their cost + some reasonable amount above that.
Good Luck with the negotiations

Good thing you put the prices in parenthesis. Otherwise the consensus would have been that you got the worst deal in the history of haggling (103% over invoice)!!!!

Darla got a great deal at 3% over invoice.
I paid $30,430 and got mud flaps and wheel locks (about $180 MSRP) thrown in. It works out to about 5.6% over invoice if I paid MSRP for the options, 6.3% if they were freebies. You can certainly get many of the lower cost options included for no charge.
From my observations, $29,500 to $30,500 seems to be about the best on this forum for a TLS w/o NAVI, including destination. Remember, since taxes, tags, etc. vary so much around the US, (Canada?) the numbers above don't reflect those costs.
I must have given in too easily. My deal only took about 20 minutes of haggling.

Always buy on the last day of the month. If sales were slow that month they will go a lot lower on their price in order to meet their dealership sales quotas and avoid having the pay the bank for the cars that are still sitting on their lot.
It also dosen't hurt to see if the dealership has a sales board up... try to get the salesperson with fewest sales for the month.
I think the sales manager normally has final say on a deal, but if you have the salesguy begging the manager to let it go for 4% over invoice it can't hurt any.

I wasn't able to do this, but a rule of thumb for father uses for other cars he bought is that the MSRP cost should be the total out the door cost (tax, title, license, etc.) It works out to be about right I think.

Try HammerAuto.com. I bought my car through them and they got me a great price. For a few of $300 they will do all the work. Not the typical broker... you can complete a web based form and they will send you a quote on the car. No obligation to purchase if you do not like. FYI, they are located in San Francisco Bay Area but can handle any requests in US.
I have an earlier post on my deal.... See "deal in San Francisco" posted about a week ago.

Picked up a Fresh Unwraped WDP/wo Nav today with 9 miles on the clock...with only one phone call to McConnell Acura in Montgomery Alabama, for $29932 inc Dest.$30960 total Drive Away. Pinstrip and "paint protectant" was included. My salesman said he was surprised they let it go at that price, but since it's the end of the month, they wouldn't have to pay Floor Plan interest for the month. What a sweet ride it was back home to Birmingham! WOW!
