Welcome to AZine. I wouldn't hesitate to get a 03 tl-s for the right price. I have been looking for a used car, all junkers out there asking for a high price with high mileage. second gen tl is the best bang for the buck. It is a dream used car if you could get a hold of a decent one. Many owners have high mileage on them and are still going strong.

the engine lifespan is not the problem..fsttyms1 pulled his apart at 200kmiles and it looked new inside

buying a gen2 now is great IF you can get a rightous warranty on the trans
otherwise...have you been playing craps long Sir?? eventually that 7 comes around

Generally speaking, you can get it done for ~2k.

However, it depends on where you source the tranny. It can be as cheap as 1.2k and as expensive as 3.5k

Timing Belt and water pump check if those have been done first, if not that is the number one thing you should do first. Then I would do fluids transmission, coolant, power steering, also spark plugs, pcv valve and depending how noisy the valves are you might need a valve adjustment. Also check motor mounts which are common problems. Hope this helps.

^ Good advise above. I just did my 105k timing belt, along with the other goodies invovled. Also did my front & side motor mounts.
