Arrow Transponder Key...

I bought my 99 TL from a used car dealership (small one). I like the car but it did not come with the remote which I have now. But I only got one key and when I went to do the recall at Acura dealership they told me that a new key costs $45 and to program it cost an additional $65 total $110. I was like wtf is this all about the key is expensive then it needs to be programmed? I did not know there is a chip in the key. I seen them cheaper on ebay. Anyone can tell me If I can program the damn key myself? My key looks normal it is not the original cause it say ilco as it's brand rather than the Acura logo. If I don't program the key then my car won't start? like the guy at the dealership told me.

Let me know what I can do or what you have done with this dillema?

Once you program one key you have to do the rest...and the dealership hits you up with the $65 programing fee. Try and call your local locksmith and see if they program transponder keys. After I paid the the dealer all that dough to do mine someone suggested that I should have done that.

Hope this helps

Our car (& most recent HONDA vehicles) equipped with Immobilizer System. You see the green key indicator on the gauge?? That's what it's for. Everytime you put the key in ignition or take out the key from the ignition, system will automatically reads(?) the chip inside the key. That's part of the security feature. I wouldn't take it to the locksmith. Just take it to the ACURA dealer & have them do it.

Does anyone know how to program the key?

I did a search and found more info. but sill have questions.

Like what do they mean don't cut the key?

I don't have an aftermarket alrarm nor do I plan to get one.

I just want a second key because I have just one and if I lose it I am going to regret it.

I bought the key blank from Ebay for $25, and dealer charged me $38 to cut it and program it. Took the guy about 2 minutes...

I was planning to get the key on ebay too.

Do you know if I need the master key when I have them cut it and program it?

cause I don't have the master key.

thanks

Like I said try a locksmith I'm not sure if they can do it. If they can I'll guarantee it will be cheaper than acura. If they cant do it I guess you have no choice but go to Acura. You can cut the key but all you will be able to do is open the door. I would'nt try to stick it in the ignition.

What a rip-offs. I also just bought a '99 TL with only 1 key and I went to an Acura dealer here in Illinois to get an extra key. They sold me a key including programming the key for only $18 (plus tax). You don't need the master key, just need to give them a key which works for your car right now.It took about 3 minutes to make. Maybe that dealer doesn't want your business. Take it to somewhere else.

Search on the forums Im positive I read somewhere that you put the key in and you press some lock and unlock buttons on the remote and some stuff like that find it and give it to the moderator to make it a FAQ... It will save people lots and lots of money...
