Transmission recall not done on my car?
I have 99 tl and i checked on acura website that my transmission was not fixed and the status is open but i have 162xxx miles on my car so is there any possibility that dealer can install oil jet kit or replace the trans?
#2
copy what it says on your file and post on here please
OPEN on the `Transmission Warranty Extension" means just that, warranty has not been voided from salvage title--
acura doesnt know your mileage ,,so its just informational regarding being in VIN range of affected cars
has nothing to do with a trans fix and doesnt indicate if trans was ever replaced
Look for the blue bolt heads on trans to know if replaced, or call the acura 800 and ask
Its possible to have a replacement trans and the info never made it to your online acura account
Need to know that for sure if its original or replacement
RECALL on the oil jet kit: open means not done, fixed means done
Acura will still do the recall install and with a boroscope thru the filler hole, ck for specific overheat damage to 2nd gear parts
If the right damage is present you get a free warranty trans
know you have another thread- but remind us- is your trans acting up?
last week someone had slipping trans and needed recall but had already been to dealer before asking for help here

i bought this car last year and made acura account yesterday... the only problem is with reverse gear, when i shift it to reverse in the morning it jerks hard...it could be high rpms ranging 1000 to 1400.

your cold start rpm is off adjustment to start
Should come down within less than a minute to 1200 or so, if shifting above that expect clunk
Ck motor mounts- biggest culprit in reverse thunk probs
the front and rear motor mounts (actually sides of motor) are fluid filled and vacuum boosted
a failure of one causes a few problems
the typical trans failure starts with slipping into 2nd and 3rd
and very hard shift into forward gears
for the front/rear mounts- get under the car and examine mounts for compression of rubber part, and any sign of oil track from inside it- drips- dust trail on mount and below
also ck the trans mounts and passenger side mount of engine
When the front mount breaks from over torque (we lack a needed engine brace bar)
you cant really tell and can go a year with it bad-
all the while the pass side mount takes more load covering for the front,
eventually the trans mounts and rear motor mount can fail if they are taking more load than intended
Lets look for the cheaper fixes before we think trans.. ok?!

take a look at the big bolts that go thru the trans
blue heads is what we need to know-- yes or no
Your accura account will tell you a lot but often misses a trans replaced under warranty and leaves that listed as OPEN

rpms drops down quickly during rest of the day and in the morning it takes 3-4 minutes to get to normal. my transmission doesn't slips. it's just reverse gear that is bothering me during cold start.

something in the cold start system is wrong
have you changed the spark plugs- thats the place to start for information on how the car is running
If you live anywhere in the usa beside Ca go to a parts store and ask for a free code reading
drop by the dealer and schedule the recall appointment- they may have to order the kit as most people have already had it done and its not kept in stock at dealer

warranty has nothing to do with RECALL install for oil jet kit
recalls are safety issues and should not carry a time limit
the purpose of the kit is to prevent overheat and breaking of the 2nd gear shaft- which caused some motorist to have wheel lockup at 70mph
That was a major safety issue in the govt opinion- so recall was required --and they track each car done.
ck with your dealer - they may find that heat damage!~

see the dealer ASAP right now today- have we not been clear about this?
it is a serious safety issue if that gear breaks--locked up front wheels while you are blissfully cruising on the freeway,,,
its almost as exciting for you as it is for the person right behind you!

depends on when it was made
if you look in the acura recall notice it says 99-03, but we all know it covers only half of 03~
and the OP says his acura.com account says Recall OPEN
if not affected it would not show at all correct?
so Tim- what does that really mean??

4-speeds do not have the oil jet kit. The oil jet kit was designed to specifically designed to address the design of the 5-speed tranny, not the 4-speed.

Which bolts am I trying to look at? There are lots of little blue ones under the hood and around the trans, but the large bolts that appear to be connecting the tranny to the block are NOT Blue. However, I phoned acura Canada and they said that my car WAS affected by the recall, but that there was no outstanding work to be done, but also no record of any work being performed. My car only has 61,000 KM and change. When i shift into drive the tranny hits pretty hard. Do I have any options? (2003 TL Type S)

the funny looking bolt with no head on back of trans,, with square hole that fits a 3/8 drive ratchet perfectly?
with the letters ATF over it on the trans case???
thats the trans fluid drain bolt!!!
it has a matching filler bolt on top of trans also marked ATF

ck your motor mounts for hard shift into Drive
the `front of car` mount breaks- then pass side mount goes from the extra load
get under and look for small oil trail from mount- yes they are hydraulic fluid filled and some years are vacuum boosted too!
bad mount makes engine miss as well

Haha, I prolly can't even find the motor mounts. I'm not really set up to crawl around under my car, no jack stands or lift or anything at my place. Guess I'll head to the dealer and get em to check for me. Thx for you help!
