Transmission rebuilt twice
Hi, the used 00 TL I bought had a rebuilt transmission a year ago and two weeks back and it is slipping gears. I am going to try and have the company (cott mann transmission) that rebuilt it the second time fix it for me at no charge, since it has only been two weeks.
My question is if the problem is that I don't have the new acura transmission (the one from the recall) but just my original (faulty?) transmission that came with the car rebuilt. I don't know why the previous owner did rebuilds from independent repair shops instead of claiming the warranty, but is that why my gears are slipping, or is it just bad luck? Thanks!

2 weeks since rebuild- they missed something on the rebuild- it happens
No sweat its cottman- they are very good with warranty and you have a real problem
the last owner probably didnt know about the warranty- many TLs end up for sale because of it- score 1 for ziners who find that car!!

thanks 01tl4tl, but do you think my TL's tranny will keep going bad because it wasn't replaced by the new acura tranny from the recall, but by rebuilts from independent repair shops?
or are the independent shops fixing it to acura's guidelines (after the recall), making it as well as the acura trannys from the recall?

what acura has that shops dont:
New case-housing design for the trans- better oil passages
still has some probs, but that design change helps
Any trans will keep wearing out- but you should get 70-100k from one now
The shops can buy all the parts from acura and may even use better parts for some items

recall was for addittion of an external oil spray bar to get more oil to an internal gear.
It has nothing to do with the extended warranty -
the acura replacements have that sprayer inside the trans now.
