Transmission Opinion

Hello all!!! Newbe question...

I just bought an 02 TL type S from a buddy and it needs a transmission. I can buy an '02 TL Trans with 60k with 60 day warranty for $750. I can buy the '06 accord trans with 104k for $800 with a 60 day warranty.
Do you guys think an '06 with 104k has a high chance of failing than the '02 with 60k?

The '02 trans has a built-in design flaw and will eventually fail. Go with the '06.

My two cents : The 06 Accord transmission would always be the safer choice. The only issue would be, if the 06 Accord was a "city" car, and accumulated it's miles mostly in city type stop and go use, rather than mainly highway use, it could have significant internal wear. I would prefer an Accord transmission with 150K mainly highway miles, to a comparable "city" car with 75K miles. While it's difficult to determine city or highway use, the geographic location of the car's registration history, may be a good indicator.

Transmission Problem

So, I bought a 2002 tl type s from a buddy and I'm in the process of swapping for the av6 transmission because the transmission in it is bad...so I think. After talking to him tonight I have the following NEW facts.
1. He just did the av6 swap
2. After the swap he drove it in his driveway going through all the gears without issue (going forward and reverse)
3. Pulls it on the street and starts down the road with no issues
4. Stops, puts it in neutral, then back in drive and hears a loud pop
5. Has no gears now
6. All gears including park just freewheel.
7. Back on jack stands while in park if you turn one wheel the other wheel will spin the opposite direction.

So before I continue the swap is there a chance that there is something minor that could be the problem and not a complete transmission failure?
Thanks for all the help everyone.

Problem with your differential? Do you get any grinding noise when you spin the wheel or any grinding noise when putting the trans in gear?

I wouldn't say it grinds when I spin the wheels but there's definitely a loud clicking (louder on when I spin the passenger wheel).

I didn't think this car had a differential. I'm assuming it's part of the transmission and if so, is it serviceable?

Yes they have a differential but it's internal to the transmission.
