transmission problem?

i have 1999 acura tl, when i start the car in the morning and shift gear to reverse it gives a hard jerk but when it warms up it shifts smooth like butter. i was wondering is it the transmission or high rmps at cold start that makes it jerk? thanks

Sounds like a tranny issue. Be prepared to go to the stealer. They should either goodwill you a tranny, or give you a significant discount. Hopefully.

it jerks during cold start when rpms are above 900 to 1400 but it shifts smooth when rpms drop down to normal.

Some say this is sign of impending trans failure. The ECU is designed to shift harder during warm up to speed the warm up process. Some have cleaned shift solenoids with sucess. Motor mounts, tranny mounts and tranny fluid should be checked as well.

the ecu holds the shift point to a slightly higher rpm in 1-2 gear when dead cold- the first few blocks of travel
I believe its only on certain VINS acura replaced ecu during warrranty trans failure--they didnt call cars in just for the ecu upgrade
It also shifts slightly harder then--but not a slam bang bash or anything of noticable harshness

ck motor mounts first- many years are vac boosted and failure also makes car run funny- shift funny- everything

OP- do you have the recall installed `Oil Jet Kit` on top of the trans at the filler hole?
go look if not sure- there will be either a 19mm head bolt with ATF in big letters
or there is a black oil ine running to the bolt and into it a small oil rig looking thing there where the ATF bolt would be- which has 1 10 or 12mm head bolt holding it in--thats how you tell

If that recall was not done- there is a chance of freebie trans for you yet~

there is no time limit on the oil jet RECALL kit to my knowledge
anyone ever get turned down on that basis?

And this is a good title car- not a salvage or rebuilt title correct?

Did you ck your acura.com account or call acura and verify its was supposed to have been done?

get more post so you can use the PM feature - I may have suggestions for you--see rules section for info on gaining post count

wrangler- have you owned this car from new- or is it possible the trans has been replaced and the new one has the oil jet kit built internally- in 2005 they changed the case so kit fits inside- units since then have the new case

You can ck by looking under car at trans main bolt heads
painted blue mean acura warranty trans

Sounds as if it's just idling too high when cold. Any car (automatic) will jerk when put into gear if it's idling high.
