Transmission Fluid
Hi Everybody!
My 2000 TL now has 110,500 mile on it and is on its second transmission. My cars seems to shift and drive fine. Anyway when I checked the tranny fluid today it was brown. I thought it was red before but maybee I am confused. It is dark brown like say power steering fluid. the tranny seems okay but is that a bad sign? The tranny was last replaced at 94,000 miles about 8 or 9 months ago.
Thanks All

you should get it in and have it flushed, that and if you havent already get it in for the recall on the tranny

But should the fluid be brown or red? My previous lincolns 4.6 4 cammers fluid was never changed and I put 45,000 miles on it. the fluid was red till the end.

have the local service manager pull your vin and tell you if you need the recall work done(may have been fixed internally on the last tranny) If not tell him/her of your conserns and see if they'll do something for you( like inspect it and order a new one )
BUT your tranny IS bad so figure out real soon if Acura will cover it either when it fails or sooner under the recall.

Well my current tranny seems to shift okay. I did receive the recall info in the mail for the second gear oil jet thing but have not been in yet. I am concerned on the brown fluid. Does that indicate overheating or normal wear.

the fluid WILL change in color with time every car does.. Make an appt to have the oiljet kit installed (they will inspect the tranny at that time for wear) and voice your concern about the fluid color

back to the Q, yes the tranny fluid does change color eventually but usually lubricants lose most of thier qualities long before they change colors.
So you do have a problem that getting a "flush" will slow down., but why go that route?
Enjoy your new tranny and hopefully the extra fluid jet will get the average failure rate to a bit more that 25k miles.
