Tranny Update
These are the 16 members (so far) with the dead TL-S trannys.
Remember, this is a TL-S only list!!! These cars are less than 9 months old!!!
Anyone got there's back yet. What is the latest word?
Mine is still "Maybe the middle of this month"....

Got some interesting news!!!
I spoke with the service manager at S. Fl. Acura today. He said my tranny will be in probably sometime next week. (My tranny died last Wednesday). I think the only reason why it's coming so fast is because I've been bit_hing every other day. I either call or stop by the dealer after work to complain.
Here's something interesting. Almost all of the replaced trannies for the TL-S are rebuilt trannies. The manager says it's almost impossible to get a new tranny from the assembly line. The way this tranny process works goes something like this... When your tranny dies they take out your tranny and ship it back to Acura of USA. Acura of USA ships a rebuilt tranny (from another TL-S victim) back to the dealer and into your car. That's some shaddy business. Right now I don't care anymore. I just want my car back.
Another intersting note. The manager told me why my tranny died. BS or not, dunno. He said there's a problem the 1st gear bearing. When the bearing fails it shreads apart and contaminates the whole tranny. If the tranny is running during this process (duhhhh, it would have to be running for the bearing to break) everything gets f***ed up. Chaos theory I guess. So hopefully everyone's 1st gear bearing are in good shape.
I do have one question. Is the tranny in the 2002 tl-s shared by older tl and cl models, or is this tranny unique to the tl-s? I'm interested because if they're gonna put a rebuilt tranny in my car I don't want a 1999 tl tranny. That would suck hard.
Later guys...

After multiple attempts of complaining about the horrible rental car service while my car is in the shop, Acura of S. FL has decided to loan me a Tl-s with only 2000 miles on it. I was extremely surprised. What rental cars did you guys get after your tranny broke? Just curious.

I got a real crappy Cavalier with 30,000 miles on it that smelled like cigarettes. I have since been "upgraded" to a Venture van that is actually pretty nice. (for a bus)

Just spoke with my dealer today. He says still no clue when, but if its any consolation, a '01 tranny he ordered a week before mine arrived without any warning on Wed. So he's guess-timating that it should be about another week to week-and-a-half.
All I know is that 3 weeks without my car has been very ruff!!

Tranny Update
I had similar BS from acura Canada when the tranny in my 2000 TL died. First the dealer tells me I am the only person with the problem, then after 6 weeks of waiting and numerous calls to Acura Canada, 3 promised delivery dates missed, Acura Canada finally tells me I was number 15 in line, but Canada couldn't get the replacement trannys from the US rebuild center, because there were 165 tansmissions back ordered in the US. Finally after 8 weeks I convinced the dealership to buy my 2000 TL and ut me into a new 02 TL. They gave me a fair deal, giving me top book on my 2000, and selling me the 02 TL at their cost. That will be the best deal I ever will get on a new car, I am sure !
After driving a 2001 EL for 8 weeks I was glad to get into my new TL. I have 8000 kms and the car is running fine!

I was answering this question
I own a 2002 TL-S but since it's in the shop waiting for a new tranny, my dealer gave me a 2001 TL.

I know they won't be shipping my tranny back to Acura, rebuilding it, and shipping it back to me -- my car is parked in my garage.
That would really suck if they're just giving us rebuilt trannies. I wonder which one of you guys got my first tranny. Maybe I'll get Jon's old one this go around.

Who knows, I may get YOUR first tranny!
The worst part is that it has been 3+ weeks, and I am just resigned to the fact that I won't get the car back for maybe another 3 weeks. Due to all of the past tranny posts, I am not even EXPECTING it back soon. Talk about becoming numb to the situation.
If I was not aware of this group, and the number of people who already have this problem, I would probably be going wacko by now.
A little knowledge is dangerous.....

Wow,
Just ran into this site and this particular topic. Ok so I have a 2001 CL-S with a transmission failure. Based upon what I have read and some observation at the showroom I believe the CL-S and TL-S have the same tranny (anyone have more info)?
I posted about this on this subject, but I may have some history to relate. See the NSX (91 and 92) also had a transmission problem (snap ring failure). Although this is not directly related to our failures, the history of how Acura handled the situtation may be helpful. The NSX snap ring failure was a well documented manufacturing defect. Yet Acura never issued a recall (much to the dismay of many NSX owners, see NSXprime.com). They have goodwilled the fix on some NSX's out of warranty, but I don't think they even do that any more!. There is some talk of a class action suit from NSX owners with snap ring failures (I hope we don't get that far).
This is unaccaptable behaviour from Honda! It's hard to believe with the number of bad transmissions on TL-s and Cl-s posted here we are not experiencing either a manufacturing defect or a design flaw.
My transmission took almost 2 weeks to get replaced. They told me they were putting in a brand new transmission, but the paperwork indicated it was in fact a re-manufactured unit. I got no loaner car.
Ok a question (sorry if I posted this on another subject) but has anyone had transmission problems during high G cornering (slippage, mis-shifts)?
For those of you who got remanufactured units put in, do they whine, or shift funny too (mine does)?
