Tranny starting to slip

Well, I thought my '03 TL-S's tranny was going to be spared. But, I was wrong. At 45,665 miles, it has started to slip between what appears to be the 2-3 shift - at partiial throotle, after the 1-2 shift, it stutters, revs to around 4K and then shifts.

Oh well, at leat I am not alone. Other than that, it's still a great car. this from a Porschephile.

Actually, Acura stepped up to the plate by extending the trannys coverage to 100K miles. I don't see Ford or GM doing that.

ford or gm would fix the problem.. not just keep replacing crappy trannys with crappy trannys..

Yes, my 02 TL-S has the same behavior since 2 weeks ago. It had 65K miles
now. I am going to call Sunnyvale Acura to see if they can take a quick look.

hmmmm a bit disappointed, 3 months ago, just had the power steering
rack replaced at Plesanton Acura.. almost need to pay $800 labor, lucily
they screwed up paperwork.. and I don't need to pay a dime (yet? )

Which dealership are you going to take ur car to repair?

You mean even if I were to get the tranmission & timing belt tensioner replaced at Acura Certified dealer, I can expect the tranmission problems again?

Since I am in Dublin, I will probably tale it to Acura of Pleasanton. I have had both them and Acura of Concord do some warrantee work on it. I do the routine stuff myself.

yea they may fix the problem but for those who suffer from the problem after their 36k warranty they would have to still pay for it, unlike honda who upped the warranty

to me it seems like more of the tranny problems are happening to the type-s. Im guessing because more power in them.

Same thing here. Starting to slip at just over 50k miles. Slowly getting worse.
NOT just the type-s. Mile is a 01 TL-p. I drive very easily 99 44/100& of the
time. Flushed the tranny twice (25k and 50k).

Mine is also 2-3 gear shifts. Just when you need it like merging into traffic.
This is a SAFTEY issue in my opinion.

I have a feeling based on this site that the failure rate is WAY higher than what
Acura admits or estimates. I really wonder if the failure rate has even leveled off yet.

This is a MAJOR failure for Acura. This means that they did not test these trannys
well at all. It is fairly easy to test real word reliability for these units in the 50k range
to come up with fairly reliable MBTF numbers. Means thay they engineered them and
rushed them into the cars to get to market. That is NOT why I bought the Acura
brand. Transmission failure like this is a MAJOR black mark.

After this I go back to Toyota. Had three of them in 22 years . NEVER had major reliability
problems with them.

yeah im pretty dissapointd in them too, i had an 88 Legend coupe inwhich i beat the shit out of and it took it like a champ, no tranny failure that wasnt my fault. Type s's are too fast for the tranny to handle, major fuck up on acuras part, its too bad they havent yet come out with a fix to prevent this shit from happening time after time, my friends 03 TLS has already had THREE TRANNYS at less than 40 k miles?!!? still love the car madly tho, so as long as i am inwarranty, my local dealer should keep a few for me in their back room
