Tranny solutions..
I have an 01 TL , the car is mint except for tranny problems and I would like to keep the car for many more years but realize the the time limit will run out on the warranty before I reach the 100K miles. I had a Dodge Ram in the past with a defective tranny and had it repaired at aamco transmissions and never had another problem with the truck. I called aamco transmissions a few days ago to see if they repair Acura trannys and they claim to repair many accords/TLs etc at a cost of $1400.00 for a complete rebuild. For an extra $1000.00 they will warranty the tranny for life..This is a hell of alot cheaper than getting Acura to put another POS tranny in a "out of warranty" car for $3-4 K. The TL has an awful trade in value and I don't to give it away at a low price. (It's $17K difference to trade for an 04)
I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience with companies like aamco. I still have warranty on the TL but I am looking ahead and trying to decide if I should keep the car and am thinking about future options. . I am sure aamco couldn't be worse than Acura's fu*ked replacement program. aamco's lifetime warranty sounds good.

tpatel,
Yes, you are correct acura is replacing defective trannies under warranty but carefully read the post and hopefully understand that I was talking about "out of warranty" cars.

Jazzpicker, I agree with you. I have been thinking along the same lines as you. I have had one tranny replaced at 51K I have 55K on the car now and got the recall for jet oil kit. My car is in mint condition too. I do most maintance myself also, just so I have the peace of mind it was done right the first time. I am not a big fan of dealer service departments. I want to keep the car long term too, it my daily driver. Looking to buy a E55 or a new M5 in a 2 years or so. So this would still be my daily driver then too. But I have read on this site that people have been through 3 to 4 tranny with only 60k on the car. I know I can get 200k out of the car easily. But, the last thing I was to do is shell out 3 to 4 grand after 100k to replace the tranny myself for a design mistake by Honda\Acura Motor company. We need a one time fix for this problem.
i rebuilt my own tranny for 300$ heres some pics

thier universal coolers. i got it at discount autoparts. its like an autozone. i payed 45$ for it and as soon as i started the car u could feel the difference at the cooler. before when i touched the cooler lines it would burn u, but now u can litterally hold on to the cooler and not get burned at all. heres a link on how to install 1 on a 1g cl, should be bout the same.
