Long time listener, first time caller . . .
Got a new '03 TLS in June, which now has just under 9,000 miles. On the way home from work today, I noticed that the timing of the downshift in automatic from 4th to 3d and 3d to 2d was off (sometimes faster than normal, sometimes slower). At full stops, engine was revving about twice as high as normal. Finally, when I put her in park in the driveway, the engine revved up and down between 500 rpm and 3,000 rpm in consistent cycles of about 3 seconds each. After watching the revving in park for about 20 seconds, I turned off the engine. After a few minutes, I re-started and drove a few miles. She's back to normal for the time being.
I don't have my serial number handy at the moment, but will repost in the next few days to let you know whether my experience can be added to the sad saga of complete tranny failures. BTW, my TLS is too "new" to qualify for Acura's extended tranny warranty!

That doesn't sound like a tranny problem, but more like an intermittent controller fault. I would definitely call your dealer. Perhaps he can pick up the problem with a diagnostics check.
