TRANNY QUESTION For 1999 TL Owners

i have a 1999 TL with 80,000 miles on it. My tranny is fine right now, but i was wondering if it went out, would Acura replace my 4 speed tranny with the 5 speed transmission under warranty?

if this is the case, do they also need to replace the ECU or any other parts as a result?

I do hope so, because the 5 speed (2000 and newer years) get slightly better gas mileage than the 1999 3.2 which is 4speed.

please advise.

thanks
b

If they replaced it under warranty, i'm almost certain they wouldn't replace it w/ the 5 speed tranny.

I am 100% sure the dealer would NOT replaced it with the 5 speed tranny.

thats good news

thats good news isnt it then, because the 4 speed was the better one for reliability it appears.

has anybody here had their 1999 tranny replaced? and what tranny did they replace it with?

thanks
bryan

Have you bothered to use the search feature?? I hear it works great when finding answers to questions that have been discussed in the past.

They'd replace the tranny with the very same 4-speed tranny. The four-speed was just that much better on many levels. For one, reliability over the 5-speed is superior.

More importantly, I've driven both the 99 and 02 TLs and the shift points really are perfect on the four speed. First takes you to about 60-65, Second takes you to 120-125. Third to 160-165. There is nothing more perfect than merging onto a highway in second gear...

Bingo. Either way- the shift points are just perfect.
