Tranny plans on slight holding pattern
Yea, ive had a Horrible start to the new year. Firs a week ago it was my TL's Tranny. Monday it was the tranny on my new (just out of warranty) 4 wheeler. Today trailering it home, i blew a spark plug out of the head on my expedition whish is now in need of a new cylinder head
I really think i ned a vacation to get away.
so if i dont have any new news on the TL im working on other things but i will hopefully know something soon.
Well off to rent a car for the week/end
Sorry for venting

?? my guess is that it wasnt properly torqued or was cross threaded when they were installed (previous owner) I was (hopefully) able to fix it by using a heli coil. find out tomorrow when i start it.

Is that the 5.4 triton v8? My friend had the same problem in his Navigator. Happened to him about five times already, same plug and coil pack on the number 8 cylinder..... recall maybe?

The plugs are a biotch to change on these things. Some GENIUS decided it would be a good thing to stick them UNDER the fuel rail, so that has to be removed just to get to the stupid things. THEN they mount half the engine under the cowl/firewall so that it makes it even more difficult to get to. And of course the engine is OHC so it makkes it even more tricky to get a (with socket)8" socket and extension under teh cowl and into the deep spark plug socket hole. I think they blow out because mechanics have a hard time installing them properly with out cross threading them or not tightening them properly due to said GENIUS above
got the 4 wheeler running too. It was the belt. part of it was destroyed and parts of it were in the clutch system. A little dissassembly and got all the fragments and its up and running

I do know what you're talking about on the spark plugs. My buddy has an 03 Ford F-150 w/ the Triton V8, the 5.4L., probably the exact same engine as yours. I did a tune up on his truck and it took 3.5 hours to do the spark plugs (8) b/c you have to pull the rail and the injectors and the coil packs and then use 3 different extensions and a swivel socket to get the rear spark plugs out. At least you're back on the road and able to concentrate on the more important things, i.e. a 6-speed tranny swap.
