Tranny - Is this normal
Tranny - Is this normal
So now that it's getting warmer out, I noticed that the Tranny is acting differently. Going slowly up a hill it seems like the Tranny is letting itself get locked into too high of a gear and instead of downshifting, will lug the car up. It's almost as if its lurching/shuddering because it doesn't have enough torque for the gear/speed/grade. I think on occasion, I hear what sounds like a slight grinding sound under similar circumstances, but without the lurching/shuddering. Only problem is it is not duplicatable, and certainly not duplicatable near either of the Acura service departments. Our subdivision is quite hilly. I know gear hunting in Automatic Trannys is not uncommon. Is it common in the TL?
I only have 55K miles on the car (but a 2000). I believe Acura extended the warranty on the Tranny to 100K miles, but I don't recall the year limit. I have warranty until 62,500 because I bought a certified used. If I let it run past I want to make sure it's covered.
Thanks.

Until it started shuttering so bad at 40mph. I made the service manager drive with me for an hour.
Got my tranny replaced finally.
whatever you do, do NOT let them tell you it's tranny fluid or whatever. Acura Ramsey in NJ tried to charge me to flush the tranny, after they did (i didn't pay) they said it was just dirty fluid and refused to change the tranny. 2 days later my tranny died and I was lucky enough to be able to drive it back home. I never went back to that dealer. I reported them and apparently Acura doesn't really care.
