Has this happened to anyone else.

 

The tranny would only go in reverse. once forced I finally got it to go in drive again and it seems normal again. Fluid smells burnt and is red and black in color. Fluid level is low too i think. This is a 2000 tl that i just bought last month. It has 86,000 miles but is warantee to 100,000 bumper to bumper. Should i add fluid to tranny or ask dealer to replace tranny? thx

 

Take it to the dealer. You dont know what else is wrong with the car.

Definitely take it to the dealer. Your car possibly falls in the group of cars ('00-'03) affected by the tranny defect. Sounds like you may be a victim of this very common problem.

 

Yes, mine crapped while going 75 MPH. It went into 2nd gear and the car lurched hard. (most trannys are programmed to go into a 'protective safe mode' when trouble is sensed and the electronics then force it into 2nd gear so you can drive it off the road - only suks when it does it without warning while driving at highway speeds). The third gear clutch pack is bad. Acura will replace the tranny under warranty. Do it immediately. The car is unsafe to drive now.

 

I went to my Acura Dealer today. They checked the tranny and say it shifts okay but there is some vibration so they replace it under warrantee. My dealer says my car is safe to drive while they wait for the tranny to come in. It seems to be working okay again so I am just hoping for no more lockups. Thanks for the reply
