were you in 2nd gear?
does it drive normal now?
does the fluid look ok- or smell burnt beyond recognition?

Mine slipped 3 times today. I'm ready to burn it to the ground. I regret buying another one. I'm taking it to the dealer where I bought it (and where I used to work). I'm getting them to open a goodwill case from Acura since it's an 01 with 72k. I'm not paying a dime over 2k to fix it. If it's more...I'm dumping the car and I'll figure out something else. Oh yeah, I bought it used 2 yrs ago when I totaled my 00 TL and got a small loan on it that I'm paying off with this year's tax refund.

Why is it every time you pay off a car it goes to hell right afterward?

I'm hoping they will goodwill the tranny and maybe I can just pay labor. Anything less and I'm done with Honda/Acura.

so they said Out of VIN range - right?
thats total bs and they played you based on your age

GO BACK and speak in person with the SERVICE MANAGER- not the `writer` who has no authority in this matter, and does want to sell you something for $4000!!!

Tell the manager your story of new owner and trans failed- you are a student and had a TL and went with newer year, Acura LIKES customers who are loyal
ASK for `GOODWILL warranty assistance`
They call the local acura warranty rep and see what corp will do on a partial to full pay for you.
Those that ask,, can get- those that dont ask- pttt get nothing

If that fails you can go direct to corp and appeal for help- considering some of the request they get and what you are asking...free trans or 500 for install and trans free,

sad thing is i did talk to manager. still happened like that. i got tired of running back and forward for them so im getting it done somewhere else. first acura quoted me 5900 . then i got quoted 2g for private shop and 2 year unlimited mile warranty. sounded better to me

I have an 03 TL S that had 75,000 miles when the transmission went out in October '09. I was given 80% coverage from Acura, so my share was $600.

Yagermeister, I would question you: did you negotiate or they offer that % from the start

You are asking for 4000 dollars worth of stuff for free or nearly free, that they are not legally required to give you

Seems like however many phone calls to corp and WRITING to corp- (that gets results!!) is worth it IMO
Anyone can call,, but it takes time to write a letter to Acura,, detailing your membership in azine and the trans issue being well documented in post VIN range cars-
they are giving others in similar situations considerable help.

a lot depends on the service manager at first- to make the call and present your story to the acura rep- how that goes determines the next part,,,

corp is paying for the trans so their actual employee deals with all warranty claims in the area
Next step up is the call to the 800 number AND a letter-
that gets results because real people read it and take action,,,
they know letter writers dont go away easily, they want something and will jump the hoops as needed--smiling all the way to the bank to visit the money they saved~

acura should match the local rebuilder price at the least- you DO BETTER when you make a request of stated amount you want to pay- something for them to negotiate towards

You DO want the acura rebuild for its new design case (since 05) and better oil flow

I can understand your frustration-Ive been on both sides of warranty claims, thats why I try to offer suggestions based on what has worked before,, to get what you want

Yagermeister,

Why did you have to pay anything? Isn't the warranty good for 7 yrs + 10 months or 100,000 miles? Or is your VIN out of the 'bad' transmission range?

Mine original tranny went poop back in July. 2nd gear was slipping but still ran. had to empty out 3500 because ACURA wouldnt goodwill it... VIN out of range my a$$... ACURA should have just allowed the 107k, 7year warrranty on all of the TLs that had tranny problems no mattter what VIN they had. They all were bad.

but at the time of the court case in 2004 they needed a vin to set for the stop point.

Its strange that some get goodwill and others dont
I guess thats why its called goodwill,,if they are are willing- thats good!

sneaky- who is thread stealing?- everyone seems to offer their experiences and how to get goodwill--- for others in similar situations in the future

naturally the first question is why didnt they cover you- miles-vin range etc
