Ive only owned the car for about 3 weeks. Last weekend I replaced the front and the side motor mounts which were completely shot. It seems like it shifts a lot better but every now and again it struggles shifting into third.(pops out and goes back in immediately) Its only at 72K but I dont know if any transmission work has been done. Based on what Ive read in the other 5+ transmission posts, its suggested I check the fluid and the screens. Before I start hunting down a new tranny are there any other suggestions

 

Sorry to hear that but its on its way, keep hunting for the av6.
I would keep driving it but in ss mode to skip 3rd gear.

 

Is the check engine light on?

 

Hey GraveDigger, have ya checked out the previous history of the car with Acura ?
Try to find out if any recall work was performed with the car's tranny. Did the previous owner have PM records when ya recently bought the car ? Check for blue dots on the bolts under the tranny casing. This would indicate that the tranny was replaced by Acura at some point.

Check the fluid's level and overall condition. Wouldn't hurt to try a drain & fill using Honda DW1 fluid. Inspect the fluid and tranny's drain plug for residue. Check for any codes, may have a bad solenoid, IDK ?

Could ya explain the third gear "popping" out a little better ? Does it happen all the time.....cold or hot ? Any other signs of distress ?

 

Thanks for all the info. I will check with the dealership it was bought from tomorrow and see. It only does it like once or twice a day. I will take a better look at it this at the things you told me to look for. It hasn't thrown a code yet but I got a lot of anxiety about driving it around with the known problems discussed in the forums on here.
