Tranny going out???

Today I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and then the car dropped a gear or two for a second and then went right back to where it was. Needless to say, I was scared out of my mind. Is this what starts to happen when the transmission is going bad? I've noticed some searching through the gears lately, but I figured it was normal since it's been so long since I've had an automatic. I know that some of you have said that you have driven it until it won't switch out of 2nd gear. I must not have the cojones that you guys do as I just don't want to drive it if at any moment this could happen again. Should I just call and make an appointment with the Acura dealership now?

Those are some of the symptoms of a failing transmission. You should call your dealer right away and let them know what happened. The occational slip (can't find gear), or the sudden drop from two 2nd from 4th or 5th are the most common things I read about here. Believe me I know how you feel. It's scary when you are in traffic on the highway and the transmission drops to 2nd gear. My RPM jumped to about 6000K, and I started slowing fast. I had to hit the gas just to keep from slowing too quickly to hopefully avoid an accident.

My first symptoms were some of my shifts seemed very hard. Once and awhile when I shifted into 3rd or 4th it would slam into gear. About 1-2 weeks after I noticed that my transmission would slip between gear 2 and 3. It would only briefly "flare" for about 500rpm then go into 3rd. I ran like this for about a week, and it then started happening more frequently. Then on Sunday it dropped into 2nd abruptly from 4th gear, and I had to slow all the way down to 1st gear to get the transmission to engage. Today on my way to the dealer I could barely get it to run above 2nd gear. Once I got there it would stay, but I was scared that it was going to drop, so I kept my speed at 55 when I managed to get it in 4th gear.
