Does anyone know how much tranny fluid that our cars take?

total capacity is 7.3 us quarts
BUT
if doing a normal `atf drain plug` fluid change, it will only drain out 3 to 3.4 qts,,
depending on if you did a warm up drive and how patient you are letting it drip out

the rest is trapped in the torque convertor--only way to get more old fluid out
is to add new and drive a few minutes using each gear- then drain again

Suggest using Honda DW-1 fluid, thats replaced the discontinued zr1- for all hondas using it

thanks for the info... I just bought 20 quarts of ATF-DW1 so that I can do the fluid change myself and just needed to know the capacity of the tranny.

20 quarts!! ok thats plenty, figure 3.4 each refill

are you going to do the 3x3 manual drain refill drive, drain refill drive, method?
Or the `accord method` with engine running and add fluid as it comes out?
thats what the dealer does as the `new method` atf change--run car on the lift- thru the gears etc,,saves them time and does a good job

the 3 qts x 3 times method was actually in case you ever added Dextron3 to the trans fluid--thats a bad thing for us,
and to clean it all out- the 3x3 is called for by the owner book

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Never used any other fluid but OEM Honda fluid for the trans... Just figured I'd make the transistion to DW1 from Z1 since everyone has nothing but good feedback for it.

I was only pointing out WHY the 3x3 method was ever designed--in case of accidental dex3 introduction in any amount (per owner book)

for you going to dw1 is a good idea--
honda made a new fluid after decades of same stuff
keeping up with technology of their new trans!
but it benefits us is by smoother shifting and possible better cooling (guess on my part that newer fluid is better at everything)
