That's safe.

Lemme guess, one of the 3 people in the back seat was holding the 2 year old, or was the 2 year old being held by the front seat passenger?

He's lucky he was only doing 70. A 5->2 downshift much faster may have been forceful enough to fling the unrestrained 2-year-old against interior panels of the TL, or worse, through the windshield.

What's wrong with people today? Restraints are there for a reason!

Lots of people do that kind of stuff, and I didn't mean to be harsh. Let this incident make you realize that you can't do that. Think about the force of your sister's weight against the little boy against the seatbelt in the event of an accident. It would not be pretty.

Just be careful with the little guy... if that situation arises again, suggest someone stay behind and always use a car seat. I know you wouldn't want anything to happen to any of the people you had in your car.

But about getting them to give you a new car, probably not. They'll just replace your transmission and send you on your way most likely. What are the miles like on your 2003?

Too bad you don't love your nephew enough to secure him in a car seat. Irresponsible and pathetic. I think we'll close this thread before it starts getting real ugly.
