Tranny Failed

Shitty blown tranny story. On way to Austin from Dallas and my tranny blew on the highway just south of Waco. Took 4 hours to get a tow and get a rental. But Acura is paying for full tow and tranny.

Got some questions for ya:

1) How many miles on your car?

2) Was there any symptoms before the tranny went out such as slipping(how bad), cel, maintanence required light, etc

3) How fast were you driving?

89K miles. On hwy for 2 hours when it happended, going about 80mph the whole time. Just felt a couple tugs each followed by loss of momentum and then then no torque at all, coasted to gas station trailing smoke and burning transmission fluid. First tranny replaced and first issue of any kind.

At least you made it to the gas station. Now with the new tranny the car will go forever.

tell her the new unit comes with a warranty plus you are still covered on the 7/109 warranty
Let her know thats a $4000 dollar gift for the car, and if you run sone seafoam in it the gas and intake vac- replace the sparkplugs- you pretty much have a new runing car with fresh transmission, ready to keep rolling withits reasonable insurance and excellent road manners- other than this

Question
Did you ever have the RECALL external oil jet kit installed?
that was issued in 2004 but there are still cars without it! Its FREE!

#1 What is an oil jet kit? I dont know if it was replaced since i got it in 05, but will call the dealer tue

#2 will the new tranny perform better than when I got my TL at 46K miles? Its hard to remember 2 years ago, but it seems like it pulled better then, of course I run it hard at ever light!!

They have a redesigned case with better oil flow and the 2nd gear oiler is now internal
BUT
its still gt a problem to be aware of and treat the car nice- its a 4 door sports car- not a beater integra

Dont be so hard on it off the line- the 2nd and 3rd gear clutch packs are subject to severe heat and wear like that!!!
Once its rolling its good to go
Read the owner manual for operating tips and read the acurazine gen2 threads for things to be aware of on your baby

When possible- the dealer hooks you up with a loaner car, or arranges for a rental that acura pays for.
If you got a rental during the emergency, acura will reimburse you for the cost.

age minimums apply and the dealer does this as a courtesy- not required to give you a loaner.

I think it helps if you made a load proclamtion of= I have xx miles and absolutlky flawless transmission- never changed the fluid- never going too~
Then start the 7 day countdown--starting a new thread on the subject seems to work best for noobs to get a failure~ I dont know what we do for you

Maybe it works the other way for you, so keep saying it. When you don't say it, who knows what will happen.

Currently I have 61,678 miles and my transmission is absolutly flawless, and I changed the fluid 2x, but I don't think I will ever have to again because it's so perfect.

Not gonna say it anymore. lol

Should have typed the whole response like this, but maybe that would reverse the jinx as well.

there are occasional bad units, a defect part or defect installer at the rebuilding center.
These are not brand new perfect trans we get as replacements- they are rebuilt and some are winners and some are not

I dont mind them changing the fluid for me by replacing the trans- again, thats ok~

somebody last week with bad symptoms and rough shifting, found some selenoids on the externals of the trans- removed and cleaned a screen?-
assumedly with carb spray cleaner, and reinstalled
Reports improved smoothness- on trans far past warranty

Did I mention that I am in a black 09 TSX and am serious thinking how much fun it would be to get one, fucking paddle shifters!!! But seriously it would take a turbo, exhaust, headers, pulley and intake to get me to trade the TL for the TSX, just not enough stock HP, but very very very impressive redesign interior is top notch!!

does this mean for as long as you own a 2nd gen TL, the tranny is doomed for forever?

look at my signature, they still honored my warranty. If any acura dealership says they wont, look on this website and print off the 40 page post for tranny failure and show them all the guys with mods they fixed, they cannot treat you different. MOD away, but if you go turbo, or go into the engine i would switch back before you take it in for tranny repair, by law they have to show that your mod caused the tranny failure to NOT cover the tranny, and even with a turbo they should still cover the tranny but.............
