Tranny Died

22,300 miles on my SSM 2002 Type S and my tranny died this morning ! All the usual signs I have read on this site happened as I was driving on the interstate 50 miles from home on a business trip. Road side assistance was too busy since we had a snow and ice storm here in Kansas City. The dealer stepped up and called their contact and I was towed in an hour. Finally got the service manager to admit that they had several go out - I had asked them whenever I had service if they knew about the tranny issue , but he never told me they did! Then he says there have been several upgrades to the replacement tranny. "OH.REALLY" I say. Anyway must wait 5 days to get my ride back - bummer.

Mine shifts different than stock after getting it back from the dealer. Not a good thing b/c it seems to have MORE slippage than before. Slippage = Heat = Another Failed Tranny?
Decided to keep the car as long as it's still under warranty. I wonder how many TL-S's will still be on the road after 100K. At a tranny replacement cost of $6K I can't imagine seeing many. 2002-2003 TL-S will have a short lived existence.

Zimbrick in WI was stocking trannies .. that verified that there was a problem with the Acura Crap-O-Matic long before Acura grew a set of balls and admitted a problem .. because NOBODY stocks that expensive of a part ..

I have not yet heard of an '03 TL-S, made in '03, having a tranny problem. Am I wrong??

I was in SS - D5 on the interstate going about 60 because of some snow cover.( I always use SS to start off in the snow) I have used SS at times and pushed it pretty good to the red line in all gears. I'd say about 10 times and the rest normal driving over the two years I have had the car. Go figure -

The tranny problem does not have anything to do with SS usage or driving habits. It can strike anyone. However, if you use SS frequently, quite a few of us on this forum believe it puts less pressure on the tranny unless you're shifting at redline EVERY single time. I'm still on my original tranny but my to-do-list includes hitting VTEC atleast once a day

Has anyone heard of Acura's new "fix" for the problem? It includes a new ECU as well as a new "updated" tranny. Has anyone out there had one of these go out on them?

As to the"fix",my service manager said the replacement tranny has gone thru several upgrades and modifications. All new parts except the used housing. I guess I'll just have to see how it performes - I won't baby it!

HEY PUNKOZ,
LET ME KNOW WHAT THE OUTCOME IS. I HAVE A 03 TLS AND MY TRANNY WENT @ 9K, BUT EVEN AFTER I GOT IT BACK IT WOULD STILL DO WHAT UR EXPLAINING. THE SHIFTS ARE VERY ROUGH AND LOUD, NOT SMOOTH AT ALL, NOT LIKE IT SHOULD ME. ALTHOUGH IT ONLY DOES IT SOMETIMES FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS @ A TIME. OTHER TIMES THE CAR IS AS SMOOTH AS CAN BE WITH SHIFTING & ACCELERATING. I BROUGHT IT BACK A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT OF COURSE THEY TELL ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHICH JUST MEANS THEIR MICKEY MOUSE TECHNICIANS CANT FIND THE PROBLEM. GOOD LUCK!!

I would be interested to see if this '03 was made in '03 or made in '02.
