tranny cooler

i wanna do a mod and the tranny cooler is pretty cheap. i wanted to know if i will notice anything while driving and if i can install it myself?

also i know honda recommends their tranny fluid but what about the redline stuff? i'd be kind of afraid to go to the dealer with a messed up tranny and non honda tranny fluid in there...

I did notice a slight change in the way the tranny shifts. It seems to hold the gears a little longer.. just no so hell bent on getting to 5th. I'll be getting the fluid changed next month. It will be 10k and I'll be interested to see how it looks. I used Honda Z1 but Comptech recommends Redline. I'll be using Redline the next time with the S/C.

here's the link on the how to:

You will definitely notice a difference if you flush your tranny at the same time. Shifts will be more consistent after a hard run or in extreme heat. Fluid will also stay pink. Made a BIG difference on my 1999 and it's a mod I need to do on my 2003 TL-S. The 2003 exhibits some roughness that my 1999 had prior to the cooler.

I was looking at the Helm manual for my 2000 TLP, and I noticed that the 1999 had a tranny cooler?!? Just not a very good one? What's the deal?

My 2000 looks like it has a tube that comes out of the pump and right back into the tranny, if I'm looking at it right. Seems like a pretty straightforward operation. Any gotchas?

Thanks!

They all have coolers - the 2000 on is a liquid to liquid cooler, rather than a liquid to air.

If you change to a different brand of fluid, be very sesitive to the change it shifting - if it feels a little "tighter" and abrupt, that is OK, but if it feels slushier, that is a danger that too much slippage is occuring.

I experimented a lot with my 3 TL's, and came to believe that Honda fluid is fine, but changing it often (twice in first year, every year after that) is the best course.
