cant really do nething about it til it croaks on you. Only precautions that you can do is change the transmission oil. My car is beginning to show symptoms and I brought it in today and i was told that they cant do nething about until the transmission actuallys dies on me(like the d5 light starts blinking and my gears start to shift on their own or dont shift at all)...damn acura POS trannies

Not sure what you're experiencing. But mine down-shifted then shifted back up a couple of times while I was driving. Didn't occur a whole lot. But I brought it in for a routine checkup at 30k, asked them to look at the transmission, and was told it needed to be replaced.

I'm just worried what I will experience after I get the new transmission. Some of the stories on this board makes my skin crawl.

Mine does not do that. It drives fine. Its when it down shifts comming to a stop sign or slowing down comming up pver a hill, sometimes it down shifts a little harder than other times or holds out that gear a little longer.......

Its probably normal and I am not used to it.......

I hope, or my wife is gonna leave me........ this car was more than we could afford right now, that tranny goes I am in trouble.

thats what my first one did. the dealer is full of $hit! they should replace it before it completly dies. its on its way out. i would call them back and have it done before it leaves you stranded. when mine acted like that there like yup you need a new one. told me to get what i needed out of it and gave me a loaner and sent me on my way

I don't think mine is going anymore after reading what others are saying here. I think its a matter of getting used to a sportier car and how it shifts differently.

Thnaks for the info anyways!

Come to think of it...maybe this occured in yours. The last time I switched from automatic to the sport shifter, I noticed that whenever I shifted up one gear, there is a 1-2 second pause before it actually goes into the next gear. Didn't think much about it. The only thing I noticed was that I didn't recall it doing this when I first got my car. I just categorized it as normal operations.

Our shift from 1>2 is normally a little harsh...

1 to 2 was always smooth for me. It was the upper gears that kinda stuck, if you want to call it that. Almost felt like when Rocky says "antici.......pation" in the Rocky Horror Picture show for those that are familiar with it.

Here are two major signs....

1) Brown Transmission Fluid

2) Going down the road "hunting" a gear (downshifting & upshifting).

We had 43,000 flawless miles on our 2002 TL/S and the tranny went in about 3 days time. The two items above were all the notice I had.

I'll check the tranny fluid, it never seems to hunt a gear
