Trade-in-Value
Trade-in-Value
Got rid of my 2000TL-P on Saturday.
There has been some debate about trade-in and cash values etc. here.
Actual cash on my 2000 White with Tan interior - 60035 miles - $12,500. They told me the wholesalers were offering $12,000 and their used car mgr gave $12,500. It appears as if the dealer is keeping the car.
Carfax showed one low dollar accident. Car otherwise was truly immaculate inside and out.
Bought a Lexus RX330. Negotiated that price, then they got Actual Cash on my car. I expected lowball and nearly fell off my chair when they came back with $12,500. So they "showed" me well over 17K for my trade for state tax purposes.
Thought you guys might like to know.

There's no way some dealer gave that as a legitimate quote on a trade. That's a pie-in-the-sky- number.

they are good with buying cars. they gave me 13,900 for a 99 civic si with 89,000 miles on it when i traded it for my TL in 2000 (27,900)$

I will say nothing bad about Acura. TL, MDX or otherwise. I liked the Acura - great car. Even though the tranmission was warranted and I was due for the recall, it probably would have received a new rebuilt one. It was slipping worse than I realized until I test drove some newer cars. The plan is for me to drive the Lex for probably 3 years, hand it over to the wife and I'll get a new car. Can't argue with that. At that time, I'll probably revisit the TL or perhaps the RL depending on how they hold up. I'll still probably troll the forums to keep apprised of what going on with Acura - good and bad. Aside from the transmission, whoever gets my car will get a gem.

89k miles a year?! how much do you drive to work? Or was the Si that much fun?

)It also has a very nice feature. When driving alone, you can pick a setting that focuses the sound on the driver. Other options include front, rear and all. This in addition to the normal front/rear fade. It works and sounds great.
When you price the package/options separately, the ML Sound ends up being $980. Having test drove one with and without, I could notice a difference, but I'm not sure it's $980 worth. But I have yet to see a RX with the DVD player that didn't have the ML sound. I know you could order it, but haven't seen one on the lot. Since we settled on getting it with the DVD, we bit the bullet and took ML also.
I got 14,500 trade-in on my 2001 cl-s (non navi, 42000 miles). With the tax I saved on the new vehicle, plus the money I got back after cancelling the extended warrenty, I wound up with $16,600. I guess not too bad, it did need new tires after the summer.
Still on original tranny, but I just couldn't trust it on long trips anymore. Also though it would be worth more with the original tranny rather than its 2nd or 3rd. I also needed more room and went for an SUV.
I went for a loaded FX35. So far the only feature I miss is the auto tilt-down side mirror when you go into reverse. But now I have a reverse camera that appears on the navi screen.
I also looked at the MDX and Lexus 330. Didn't really like the MDX. The choice was really close with the Lexus, but I thought I would miss the handling and performance of my CL-S, so this pushed me into the FX35.

I like the zip and handling of the FX, but thought the ride was a bit harsh. The Lex had substantially more cargo area. Both are nice vehicles. Friend had a FX and loved it, but divorce forced him to part with it. MDX is a nice vehicle, but style wise it seems a bit boxy next to the sleek Lex and sleeker FX. Perhaps the next redesign will move it along the lines of the TL and RL, ie a little more panache.

With the MDX, I was more concerned over the tranny issues.
